so far i cut 2 plants that spent time under the light.

plant A, not pictured, was damaged by a falling light during my lighting travails (which led up to purchasing the optic). It spent about 4 weeks of its flowering time under the optic. The potency was very nice, good flavor and visual appeal. Only the main cola buds were solid but all were resiny and fragrant.

Plant B, the chopped plant was 8 weeks under the optic. It suffered some from being rootbound (3gal). I chopped it because it was ~85% cloudy. I play around with chop time because i think that getting the buds to their largest size is not the same as taking them at their highest quality. It was just chopped yesterday so not sure on the nug density. It will be 4oz ish.

The plant that is left under the light has the room to itself. When this plant is finished i think ill have a more solid take on the optics performance.

I think the light grows really well. ive had the light for 2 months. I am just figuring out the spacing and lense options. So far i havent gotten the heavy frost that the mars lamp elicited. However the mars never yielded 4oz from a 3 gal pot.

I think the optic with good canopy management would give 10 oz yield. i never approached that with the mars.

My plan is to build a light similar to the optic using vero 29s or cxb 3070s and match it more carefully to my space. Maybe use a 40" x 15" frame with 8 or 10 cobs.

OK .....now lookie here.....do NOT go DIY. It is a TOTAL drain of ca$h moe-nay! You will also spend AEONS on here reading and marvelling and getting depressed at how ignorant and incapable you are in comparison to some of the geniusessesessess on here......urgh it's soul destroying at times.

I say this because I KNOW this.......I have built and tinkered and developed and grown and MacGyvered $$$s worth of COBs and I am still buying more.....it's an addiction.

So step away from the DIY bomb. Go buy yourself a KIND light....or better yet a SpectrumKing. Get disappointed real quick and then save yourself the $$$$s you'll end up spending in your attempt to outshine the sun.

Trust me, HPS, MH etc are no competition for a true DIYer.....the SUN is our only true competitor!

In conclusion:

DIY looks cheap - it IS theoretically cheap - but you will ALWAYS get addicted and spend a fortune (think meth vs cocaine)
DIY looks easy - it IS easy - but you will ALWAYS marvel at how someone else's creation, forcing you to try harder and ...spend more money!
DIY means you CAN control your FULL spectrum - but you will NEVER stop tinkering and this will .....you guessed it......make you spend more money!

Buying ready-made-Chinese-Takeaway-Alibaba-Rebranded-Lumens-Based-Warehouse-Donwnlight-Blurple-horsesh*t units from fly-by-night-cowboy-here-today-gone-tomorrow-operators will save you money and heartache.

PS - please go DIY.....because it will mean for those first few attempts you won't be as "good" as me and I won't be the ridiculous newbie that I am :)

PPS - am about to re-post this as a general warning to those that consider DIY

Or... one could buy one from you for.... $1000? What would you sell one for, Real?
Haha I'd actually be down to build some for other people, probably wouldn't be all THAT great price wise and turnaround would be a while but I feel like with each light, I learn a little more...I just don't need more light myself!

It's smashing time

I do enjoy seeing members in person though.. gives me a better perspective of them. Could you not sell the Mars light, Real, or did you really just feel like giving the fixture a good ole' ass whoopin'?

Those cases are held together pretty well though; I'd have started with unscrewing it and then showcasing my hulk like abilities in front of the camera...

So in other words, you finally admit that we were right on the money, and that you were dead wrong. That was worth hitting the "show ignored content" button to read.
