RIU Summer Fishing Trips

Im down!. No ocean though for me.unless you want someone chumming the water.

Let me tell you what I know about ocean salmon fishing. Most of the salmon in/off cali are headed for one of the rivers to spawn. The gather outside the Golden Gate & when conditions are right they move from the ocean to the rivers. Most pass thru SF bay & into one of the rivers thru the delta. These runs usually last from a few days to a couple of weeks. If you can time it correctly, & hit a run, it's a guarantee limit (2) of salmon. The trick is the timing. The difference in 1 week can be HUGE...
Because I live within 1.5hrs of the bay, what I usually do with near 90% success is watch the fish reports, & when I see "limits"...I drop everything & go....Kinda like they do the Maverick big wave surf contest...

Tuna? There's tuna in nor cal? Father's day tuna tournament or maybe labor day for us hard working farmers. Love slamming yellow tails

Albacore?......

long fins is me favorites and they get big up there. we haven't seen them for two years again. water is to warm with the El Nino. I want to work on an Abli bait boat.

We should see about getting a boat to go out in june from the bay to catch salmon. get everyone that wants to go together and take over the whole boat. anytime you treeman and I can go to rio vista for a striper hunt. my bigger boat fishes 3-4 easy

small boats can't reach the albacore mostly big boats down south, they run out 100 miles or more

That's why I like salmon fishing. If you fish during a good run, you can be limited & back on the dock by noon.....

@nuggs Last year and probably this year because of the el nino the 1/2 and 3/4 boats killed them. The day boats fished with them ,so that started at 9 miles out to 30 if they had to go that far and mostly due west in US waters. Most years the day boats fish 30 - 70 miles any deeper is a longer trip. There has been yellowtail and Bluefin tuna all winter long . All the channel islands and the Coranados have yellow tail on them. About a 1.5 hr ride on a faster skiff. Coranados which is were I fish needs a lot of Mexican paper work ( Mexican waters in general but you don't see the feds off shore much ) so Catalina and San Clemente if you don't want to deal with the BS. I have fished 70 miles in my buddies 24 ft Skip Jack.

I'm not a rich man... $200....I have never done well when I just picked a day & went salmon fishing. But I always catch salmon if I wait for a run....
Maybe we could pick a window, (say 2 weeks in June or July) & I'll watch the fish reports, if a run starts I'll put out the word & we can all meet at the dock.....I did this with a group of friends from so-cal once & it worked flawlessly, we all limited out & were back on the dock by 2:00pm....sweet day
