Well it would seem that information would be easy to find, but for some reason the OSHA stats are right in your face and Union stats are not.
don't worry, you'll think of a good talking point one day. or you'll just parrot one from fox news.

I dont know, seems to me OSHA was much more responsible for safety in work place.
Why is it the Right to Work states didnt need unions to improve their work environment if unions were so pivotal?

More than 510,000 workers now can say their lives have been saved since the passage of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, which promised workers in this country the right to a safe job. Since that time, workplace safety and health conditions have improved, but too many workers remain at serious risk of injury, illness or death.

Cant find a single statistic showing death rates dropping because of unions.

ok, here we go...

A new study shows that unionization is a sure way to dramatically lessen the many deaths and serious injuries that have been all too common in the nation's coal mines.

That 's the unequivocal conclusion of the independent study of coal mining between 1993 and 2008 conducted by Stanford law professor Allson Morantz and funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

There's no doubting it: Workers in unionized mines are far less likely to be killed or seriously injured than are workers in non-union mines.

The study indicates that the number of fatalities in individual non-union mines can decline by one-third up to nearly three-fourths and serious injuries decline by as much as one-third if the mines unionize.

It's no coincidence, notes President Cecil Roberts of the United Mine Workers Union, that several major mine disasters recently were at non-union mines. That includes the explosion at Massey Energies' Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia that killed 29 miners last year, the Crandell Canyon, Utah, blast that killed nine miners in 2007 and the Sago explosion in West Virginia in 2006 that killed 12.

god you are so fucking stupid.

right to work laws came into effect well after unions, not before them.

you fucking idiot.
Not sure what you are even talking about... and it is clear you do not either.

Let me be clear, I am sure both had major impact on work safety and less deaths, the question just made me wonder which had the most impact, if either. But as always, you are such a drama queen looking for some faux battle to win from your isolation it goes right over your head. Have fun WKI.

I'll tell you people a true story about unions.

I work for an engineering firm. And we once had a manufacturing floor where hourly, union people built the products we designed. Since we were once owned by a car company, our union was UAW. And they did a fine job.

Well, a few years ago, our company decided to carve out a work schedule so we could all have every other Friday off. It required employees to work 9 hours per day, Monday thru Thursday. Then we would get every other Friday off. Sounded great to all us engineers.

But the union held things up for a long time with their refusal to agree. Any guess as to why they refused to agree? Anybody? Because they INSISTED that they be paid time-and-a-half OVERTIME for working the ninth hour each day Monday thru Thursday. Yes, even though they still only worked 40 REGULAR hours per week, they thought they could finagle OVERTIME PAY into the deal. They were sadly mistaken.

That was the straw that broke the camel's back for our management trying to deal with the UAW. When the union contract was up, our company discontinued manufacturing at our facility, got rid of all the union workers, and sub-contracted our manufacturing to a non-union company in Florida.

I'll tell you some other stuff the union did. Every time they voted on something in closed-door meetings, there would naturally be some votes for and some votes against. But once the outcome of a vote was determined, the vote was secretly taken again, and everyone was then expected to vote together 100% for the already-decided outcome so the union could report a "completely united front". And they thought we didn't hear about it.

And here's another good story. Every Friday while we had the union, an hourly union employee was "rewarded" with the task of performing "surprise" walkthroughs in all the labs to make sure us engineers didn't have any coffee cups or cokes in the lab (they were "forbidden" in an electronics environment). Well, what that "inspector" didn't know was that my boss was 3 minutes ahead of him, walking through the labs to tell us to put our cups and cokes in a drawer until the "inspector weenie" came through.

And here's another one. About 15 years ago, at about 6:00PM on a regular work day, a circuit breaker tripped in one of our labs. Another engineer and I were working late against a deadline and were helpless with the circuit breaker tripped. Can anybody guess where this story is headed? Guess who were the ONLY people authorized to flip the switch on the breaker? Union people. My friend went to the union office, but they had all gone home for the day. So my friend flipped the switch, and we were able to finish our work and meet our deadline the next day. But guess what? Somehow, the union found out that my friend had flipped the breaker switch and filed a formal complaint against him, and it was messy. Very messy. And very petty of the union to do that.

Unions are good to an extent. But they have gone way overboard.

BMW is an exclusively non union built automobile & ya see what their sticker prices are .

How about the dozens on non union auto makers in the southern states making cars & trucks who's sticker price is on par or higher than like model union built cars & trucks ?

Your statement that trucks are priced too high due to union labor costs dont hold an ounce of water .

While were bitching about over priced items where is your outrage at the lack of affordable new built housing for the working class ?

Non union workers build over 90% of the residential housing in America , workers rarely make over $15 an hour at max yet the final product does not reflect the extremely low wages paid to the builders , cost of product is out of the reach of most working class .

Corporate profit margins are at an historical all time high but union labor is to blame for high prices , makes no sense at all .
Corporate prices are what they are because of fucking liability issues and excessive litigation in this country.

Hell, Al Sharpton's daughter just tried to sue New York City for $5 million because she turned her ankle somewhere. Even though she subsequently went on a vacation where she had pictures of her engaging in mountain climbing activities.

I've got nothing against the average union worker. It's their management I have a problem with.

then let me speak to you as i would a mentally retarded kitten.

you asked: Why is it the Right to Work states didnt need unions to improve their work environment if unions were so pivotal?

so i reminded you that unions PRECEDED right to work legislation.

this means that unions were indeed pivotal in improving work environments.

dumbass.

good job on calling me a nigger lover. never gets old seeing you confirm your racism.
You are Don Quixote charging windmills from your basement internet, all the while completely isolated from all minorities.
White Knight Isolationist. I would never ever use that terrible word that you throw around. It is quite alright to love minorities, I have loved and do love numerous people who fall into the minority categories.
Stop being so afraid, make a friend with a minority person, I promise the color will not rub off on you.

how is calling me that any different from calling me a nigger lover?
Uh, are you really that stupid? Oh yes you are

How does that in any way imply anything you are saying?

It is saying you are WHITE (yes you are)
KNIGHT as in taking up the charge (which you think you are)
ISOLATIONIST you sit in your basement all day talking shit and doing NOTHING

So explain to any normal rational person how that is calling you what you are saying?

It is ridiculous to even try to make it seem that way, but as usual you are so shallow and scared of real life that is the only thing you can do....

You are the one afraid to be in the same room as a person from a minority, that makes you a racist.

so all these terms like "white knight isolationist" and "mudscuttle" and "put on your cape and be a superhero for minorities" and "nigger lover" that get thrown at me by racists like you and desert dude and nitro harley and fdd are completely unrelated?

is that what you want me to believe?

do you honestly think anyone else is that stupid either?

Does that mean you will accept my challenge WKI?

Just for the record, I most certainly dont think you love people of color, I think you are the biggest racist on the internet and you call everyone else racist to cover for your own issues.

in what context is "raghead" a positive term to use on your wife?

in what context would it not offend you if i said your wife should be dead?

read up for yourself and stop trying to play dumb.

i only have about a dozen more of these if you want to continue to enable racists by excusing them.
So your saying i should be outraged at his comments that were never directed at my family personally ?

Im not outraged but you seem to be which is curious to me , wheres the calls for condemnation & outrage against the many members of this forum who constantly express their bigoted feelings twords the Christian religion? Wheres the quotes & examples showing the bigoted anti Christian comments ?

You've never expressed your outrage at the anti Christian sentiments openly & freely expressed in this forum at will, who's playing dumb.

Dont expect me to take part in any witch hunts , thats not my game .

1. the union was incorrect in demanding OT for the 9th hour even though their workweek never went over 40..police here opt for 4/10 hour days..for the privilege of having 3 days off in a row..it's also law..you can work in a 7 day period as many hours per day as long as you don't go over the 40..

2. i would have flipped the breaker back off after i completed my work..fuck that and fuck them:finger:
