Dual Angled Lights?

This might be a stupid idea, so I'm asking first...

Instead of having one 1000w light over the top of the plants, couldn't I have two 600w lights each at a 45°? Something kind of like this:

My thinking is the plants will get more light thanks to more watts and better canopy penetration due to the lights being angled and on each side. Maybe even three 400w lights in a triangle formation around the plants?

Is this idea stupid, or does is sound like it would work?

If you're worried about light distribution you should just scrog, it would save money and increase your yield.

Multiple light sources are always better, if applied properly. There are several reasons for this.

A single light will create "shadow areas"; whereas, light comming from another direction can hit those areas with direct light. This translates into "Better Penetration".

Any light source loses it's power exponencially as the distance to the target increases (that's why we have to keep our lights as close to the plants as possible). Twice the number of lights means about half the distence to be covered. Having lights at half the distence is a tremendous advantage. This translates into roughly 2x efficiency.

The other reasons are much more subtle but I'll just mention "you will get better coverage" with multiple sources of light. I think that one is fairly obviouse.

Oh yeah, and bye the way, there's really no need to "aim" your lights in toward the center like that. You really want the whole canapy covered as evenly as possible.

I've had to do this before to deal with crazily overgrown plants, basically ran out of room for the lights and had to move 'em to the corners of the tent, pretty much just like your drawing.
