I LOVE my new electric bike!

Hey, RIU. I just bought a Prodeco Phantom X2 a few weeks ago, and I am obsessed with this thing. I bought it with their new 16ah battery, so I'm getting some crazy distance per charge, almost 55 miles with very moderate peddling. It takes about 7 cents worth of electricity for a full charge, and takes about 6 hours. Although it states the bike's top speed is 20 mph unassisted, my bike computer normally reads 23, and about 26 with light peddling in the top gear. I love blowing by the lycras (dudes in spandex who spent $4000 on their bikes that weigh like ten pounds), since my bike doesn't really look electric. I added a wald front basket, and routinely carry a full brown paper bag of groceries home in it. I only use my car a couple times per week now, so this bike is going to pay for itself in a year or so. I love the fact that I can fly with traffic or jump onto the sidewalk or across lawns when the street's too packed, and unlike a motorcycle or scooter, there's no parking fees, insurance, license or gasoline required. All Prodeco bikes have a two year warranty for all components, and a lifetime warranty on the folding frame (yep, the fucker folds to throw in the trunk). Great customer service, too. Best $1600 I've ever spent! I'm always looking for excuses to ride this thing, and I've started to make some weed deliveries to some custies 'cause I just want to get out and ride. I feel like a kid again :)

  • As stylish as it is powerful, the Phantom X2 is considered by industry insiders to be the most aggressive and affordable folding electric bike on the market. The Phantom X2 features the superior strength and high-end torque of a 500-watt, direct-drive motor mounted in the rear wheel and provides 720 watts at peak. Riders rave about the elite components and adjustability of this matte black-and-red beauty. The precise engineering of the SRAM drive train consisting of an X7 Twist 8-speed shifter and X7 8-speed mid derailleur will satisfy smart riders. Thanks to the 38-volt, 12-amp hour advanced lithium ion battery (LiFePO4) the Phantom X2 has a maximum range of 38 miles per charge. Just give a half-twist to the “power-on-demand” propulsion throttle and off you go. Or, if you prefer, pedal as you would on a regular bicycle for routine exercise. The 58-pound Phantom X2 also boasts a foldable, lightweight, aircraft-grade, aluminum alloy frame and a shock-minimizing 120-mm ZXR magnesium suspension fork. The smooth and responsive Avid BB7 disc brake system along with Avid 180-mm, HS1 heat-shedding rotors are the best in their class and provide incredible stopping power. Continental Traffic 26-inch tires and triple-box wide 32-mm rims roll fast on pavement, but also inspire confidence on dirt and gravel trails. This high-end component package results in one enjoyable ride.

its perfect for me. i get around in a zip i love it costs next to nothing i dont need a license or insurance
But what's your average trip's distance on it? Do you go further than 5km ?
For 10-20km trips, I could get by with a 50cc scooter... but not a Vespa...

Just got back from a nice, long ride to downtown (52 miles in all). We've got the most amazing lake front bike trail in this city, it's like 56 miles long sandwiched between the lake and the skyline of all the great architecture. It's really busy when the weather is warm, but not so much when it dips below 60 or so. There are a lot of jogging hotties on the trail, so I often slow down to admire them from the back ;) I stopped to eat an apple and smoke a joint downtown and was approached by a couple from Denmark. I smoked them up, then sold them a quarter to take back to their hotel. I fucking love this city...

I was having some pretty close calls lately with cars and pedestrians, so I bought this thing -

It's called The Hornit, touted as the world's loudest bike horn. I'm not going to argue with them, this thing makes my ears ring and makes zombie pedestrians on their cells phones jump a couple inches in the air. Much better than calling out or ringing a bell, as everyone seems to be wearing earbuds or always on their phones, and they don't seem to hear me. This sound pierces through a car with the windows up and the music on. I mounted it near the left handle bar shifter so I can brake and honk at the same time if need be. I feel safer now...

That's a great deal of "honking"... I guess it isn't possible for a cyclist to navigate around pedestrians or slow down, too?

Don't get me wrong, but I question whether this device has potential for abuse...
I've seen some pretty angry and pious cyclists before...you're not one of those, I presume.

You definitely have a point. One could totally abuse this tech, impish young kids come to mind. If this were out when I was a kid (or worse yet, the Airhornz!), I would have freaked people out just for the sport. But it seems like many people have the attitude that cyclists NEVER have the right of way, which of course, we often do. In responsible hands, I think this tech will prevent many accidents and injuries, not just for cyclists but for pedestrians, as well...

Yep. Many motorists feel that cyclists are a nuisance, but we have just as much right on the road as they do. These loud horns seem to really make a difference, we were pretty much mute previously. There are more pedestrian/bike injuries than people realize, and in most bike/car collisions the driver states that he never saw the cyclist. Gotta make our presence known!

does it have a Vaporize setting?

I wish! I'd take out about three of four cars per day by myself, and almost every cab. Chicago would only have a fraction of the vehicles it currently has. Dat'd learn dem drivers; play nice or I'll take you apart at an atomic level...

God damn!! That's nuts you can buy a decent dirt bike for that price even a street legal dirt bike I've seen under 2 grand and they go fast and barely use any gas especially a 4 stroke and fun. :bigjoint:But I guess in the city it would be alright.

i live in the mountains, to get to my house from relatively flat ground you have to climb a fairly steep hill thats the equivalent of about 6 blocks. not sure what the "grade" is, but i've watched a lot of cars slide down it in the winter.
think this thing would haul my 200 lb. ass up this hill?
