cooling 5 gallon dwc bucket

is it ok to use big ice cubes in my 5 gallon dwc buckets to keep the water cool,, does ice against the roots hurt anything,, my temps have been in the 80s here and having a issue with water temps.. oh and ive been looking at the chillers the prices are crazy is there cheap solution thats efficent i could invest in to cool maybe 2 five gallon buckets?

I've been working on the same issue lately. So far I've just been using ice and insulated the buckets. The ice doesn't seem to bother the roots and it's been the most widely given advice that doesn't cost anything. Insulation made and even bigger difference. Before this, I was adding ice every 12 hours. Now, only once every other day or so. I've also been looking into a few different diy solutions. You can use the coils out of a dehumdifier. Google it, theres probably all kinds of examples and videos. "Using a dehumidifier as a water chiller"

Ice probe chiller, thermostat, and a cooler..end of problem. Takes about ten minutes to put it all together. It runs about 5 to 7 hours a day in the middle of summer, Runs up your electric bill $1.10, mine stays at 68 all year round even if its a 100f outside. No moving parts besides a fan and the ice probe has a life of over 100,000 hours

I orders the ice probe but I insulated the exterior bucket with bubble insulation in hope the ice probe will work to keep the temps at 65 degrees it's currently around 85 with out insulation in an aeroponic system tel:429234

Yea you need a cooler otherwise it will probably not work.

Cover the DWC with white panda sheet or what ever you guys call it.
I see a lot of black DWCs and it seems a silly idea.

Can I attach straight to DWC bucket ?

How long did ice probe chiller last you if you don’t mind me asking ? Was it worth the buy ?
