First Grow

I can only do so much, in time I can get more l/better light.
I don't know very much about growing with fluorescent lighting although I have heard they are good when the plant is very young and sensitive, however you will definitely need much more lumens if you want them big. how many plants do you have? even one parabolic hood with a 1000 watt metal halide bulb and ballast will get six plants BIG.

How many do they usually get?
Haha don't worry about how many that's like saing how many hairs r on my head just keep em tight and work on some training... topping, FIMing, lst lots of stuff to learn then with training come patterns tho just have fun and learn don't stress. I believe ur plants can feel negative energy so don't be discouraged or frustrated while spending time with them they feel the way u feel

I tend to move em around a lot but I just love looking at them close up. I've come to enjoy growing a lot I just want to get enough light in there the cheapest way possible. Took about 30$ to make that whole set up I have.

The right spectrum bulb helps to u want more a blue hue, blue for veg and a t5 isn't too expensive just save up like 100 bucks and u can get a nice new one, or u could also look on CL, growtrader, backpage, exc. Find them for cheaper

Wow man great advice. You think if I kept this lighting and changed to 18/6 they would yield anything?

No not necessarily is when u put a plant in to a 12on-12off and complete darkness.. unless the plant is an auto. But that totally different subject in its self, i like to let em sleep a bit cause I don't stay up 24/7 idk that's just my opinion plus it cuts on some electricity. Also keep a journal and check how ur plants react, experiment with them and write down the affects

What I meant to say is, with this amount of light would they still grow to be a decent size?

Alright. Thank you all so much for the help! I'm gonna work on getting more light for my babies. I'm sure they will thank me! Guidelines on how far away my lights should be? And best light/dark schedule cause I don't have a timer just yet.

Not to knock MH or HPS or LED, all of which are probably better lights, but for cheap and dirty, you can get decent growth from CFL's. I'm nearing the end of my first grow with a 250 watt CFL, and yield looks like it should be good. I was very cost conscious, too. 250 watt bulb and hood cost me, I believe, about $100. Flowering 4 plants under it now. As I'm sure anyone here will tell you, CFL's have their down side. They just don't crank out enough light to really get huge yields, but for a low cost, first grow, they will work. Most any hydro stores will carry them, or they are readily located online.

My main problem is that I can't afford any big lights like that right now. I'm thinking that if I double the lights and get about 20k surrounding it that it'll suffice until I can get a bigger light and good or a t5

Well I had an extra 25 bucks so I just bought 8 23w CFLs. 4 Are 6500k and 4 are 5000. Any ideas on placement around the plants?

Keep them close to the plants. I keep my lights adjusted so they hang 4-6" above the plant tops. If they get too close (like an inch or so) they will singe the plants. I dood that once.

Ouch! Yeah I'm gonna try and keep them at like 3" in case I still don't have enough light. Think 8 23w are sufficient for two small plants? Just hayseed by the way

184 watts should be fine for vegging two plants. Doesn't take much to veg them. I think the light becomes a much bigger issue as you flip to flower. Pretty much a direct correlation from amount of lumens shining on them to your yield. You will undoubtedly be able to produce something from them, though. It's just the better the lights, the better the yield. Before anybody yells, yes, I know - there are also a hundred other variables. The variety of the plants, soil, PH, air circulation, CO2, nutrients, temps, etc., all make a difference. But down here at the teeny tiny level where I grow (and it looks like you do, too), the single biggest factor is the lights. I'll be interested to see what you yield from 184 watts. I'm not much more, at 250. I'll post a pic of where mine are, at 37 days into flowering.
