I hope to have a Koi pond once i come out cali way.
that looks quite nice. looks like shitty ink has been used though. detail isnt that good either. only the scales that stand out, the flower and the koi head dont look too detailed. ill post a pick of mine i got done. its a dragon though but abit different. ill see if i got a pic somewhere

To me, it looks like it was done in a more traditional tating style. I am prolly wrong though as i know very little about them.

yer. when my son is born in 8 days(hopefully) his name goes in there. the dragon kind of symbolises the protection of his name in the scroll. as in id do anythin to keep my son safe and supported. with petals falling and the dragon in between flames. i still love it. i have kinda gone off my other tats.

I know a good fish when I see it. I once got, when I worked for a small-scale importer/breeder, a baby BLUE doitsu. This thing was blue, you know that's not a normal color morph for koi, so when I saw it swimming around I snagged it. It looks like the koi in your av is also a doitsu.
I can talk fish all day long.

whats like the best koi, I would want to get it small and raise it, clearly the cheaper of the options as well.

The best are pure white, have proper conformation, and have a perfectly round mark centered on their foreheads of the purest, truest red (just like the Japanese flag). Red and white are generally more highly prized, I believe they are called Tancho (I used to know almost all the different types, which when translated are rather romantic names, like cloudy autumn sky with metallic sparkles), Kohaku are also very populare. Showa tend to be my favorite.
They are cool to look at, and are highly prized simply for their beauty.
It's a carp, essentially, a Cyprinid. They are easily tamed and can learn quite quickly (both goldies and koi, though there's a research article somewhere about goldies learning... something, sorry, I'm drawing a blank on the specifics), though they learn "human" and not necessarily "individual" as many cichlids do. They are VERY long-lived, having been known to live well over 100 years.
They're just gorgeous, is all. Check out the fish on this site, to give you an idea of the "affordable", yet quality fish.

Ok, I've just spent... fuck, 45 minutes going through the koi. Of COURSE, I've found so many that I absolutely adore, but of course. Not a single blue (doitsu or otherwise!), though. I cried the day I lost that pondful of fish, and it's the only time in my life that I cried over fish.

First thing i did was look at small koi, they are very affordable 100 for 2 of the highest quality. Whats the diffrence between these fish and the ones that are 3500 a peice?

ahh so to equate this to something i know about, it would be like me growing 10 plants and having 1 amazing phenotype and the other 9 are just meh? Tell me I am getting this at least somewhat.

You're getting this somewhat. Look, it's just like a kennel show or a horse show. There are different factors that the judges consider.
Conformation: For a koi, there is a specific body shape, length, ratio from nose to gill (operculum), gill to pectoral fin, dorsal, and so on. Balance, weight, and color also all factor into the equation.

I could give a shit about half those things ( not tyring to be rude) I only want a big pretty fish. I was looking for blue ones they are very expensive and rare i only found 1 semi blue one on that whole site and it was 3500

Right, most people don't really care or have a need. So, you get the fish that attracts you and pleases you. This isn't like a horse or a dog where conformation = performance.
What is problematic is getting the super cheap koi from pet stores. I have seen truly deformed fish that should have been culled as soon as they grew out enough for the farmer to see that it had both eyes on one side of its head, or that its mouth wasn't actually attached to its throat properly, shit like that. Oh, or having all its fins, that's kind of important as well.

Well, we are known as the nation's bread basket.
Different areas can grow different things. Up here in the Sierra it's apples and I think peaches, definitely grapes (I know, not a tree, unless you grow 'em big!), cherries, olives, and walnuts. Near the coast you can grow practically anything that doesn't require prolonged cold or a good frost.
