mars hydro leds

so i have been browsing the forums and i see a lot of ill will towards mars hydro lights. just looking for some opinions from mars users and non users. are they really that bad for entry level cost effective led lighting. i am currently using a 150w reflector series in a 2x2x5 tent scrog.

Awe man, you're asking for it now... I might not be able to tame the crowd on this one brother.

I'll give you another honest answer before the shitstorm happens. There are better leds out there for sure, but for the cost and for your set up they're a good option. The problem with these LEDs is that they only hit the red/blue spectrum. No matter what the led companies try to say, we need a full spectrum for really good growth.

But with that said I have gotten some great results out of 2 180 ufos in a 2x4 tent. I did also have 4 55 watt 2700k cfls (1 in each corner) to help round out the spectrum.

the light was marketed as full spectrum. i am also suplementing with one 42w cfl. i was considering getting a mars2 400w for my next grow but as i see a bunch of hate for mars im not sure.

That's the bs marketing I was talking about. That Mars2 400 is gonna be around $200. There are better options for you in that price range or even cheaper.

I would go with a 250 hps for your 2x2, you could even put a 400 watt hps in there, but then you'll have the heat to deal with

I hear good things about Area51, Kind led and Advanced led is great but I'm guessing may be a bit out of the budget. I think a good bit of hate for leds is because when they first came out they were awful and overpriced. But I think they double in power every year or so and have since the late 80's. I personally would go with A51 or kind if I were you and make sure its full spectrum since I find myself running both veg and flower for full spectrum.

On the Trollitup folks just like to be hatin. It's really that simple. I've got an LED made by Mars before they were even called Mars. It works fine. But, I'm always supplementing. I used to run the LED with CFL to supplement and then just cause I had some spare change, I recently decided to buy a 150 HPS. Now I use that and 1 or both of my old LEDs a 145 Watt and a 180 that actually pulls about 110. I also start out the seedling using CFL.

NOW. The tent may present heat issues if you're using HPS. They do get hot, but so do giant CFLs. Many often say that LED doesn't produce as well as HPS. I don't know if that's true because, I've seen side by side time lapse that shows the difference isn't that significant if at all. If any. I don't think they were using the Mars branded LED tho. Mars are cheap and effective is about all I can say. I am sure there are better LEDs out there. I just don't know which one.

Now, one thing I noticed when I used the HPS with LED supplementing. I think I got the tightest most dense buds ever. But, I also changed nutes at the same time so, the results could have been because of that.

I recently had a little vaca in Denver and tried some of that legal high dolla top shelf. What I discovered is that the stuff I am growing for myself is just as good as theirs. Maybe theirs tasted a little better but, I swear mine gives a better high and may be even more potent. I'll be willing to bet that many of the experienced growers right here on the Trollitup are growing bud that's just as good as what the "pros" do.

At the end of the day, I would quit worrying about the status quo on the Trollitup. Try some different stuff and dial in your grow. I believe the Mars can grow very reasonably great bud assuming all other factors are taken care of as most other methods. May not be the best. But, I assure you. Many of the Trollitup critics belong in the mediocre department irregardless of what light they use. There are some that shine, maybe in one of them?? Who cares as long as you are satisfied with the outcome from your efforts. They work I know that for a FACT.
