Spotting on Leaves

Hi guys,

New to this. I have two plants, one auto-flower that I germinated myself and one that was given to me at three weeks old.

The older one has developed some light yellow spots on the newer growth. I'm not sure if it's nute burn or what. It doesn't look too bad yet so I'm just trying nip any problems in the bud (no pun intended.) A picture of the spots on top is attached, as well as the full plant.



The yellow/brown leaves were like that when I got the plant and it hasn't seemed to worsen. I'm primarily concerned about the light spots in the closer picture. I've also been seeing some curling in the leaves. Could it be a deficiency of some sort?

In addition, I've attached my baby as well for some feedback. She is a week old. It's a bit stretchy but otherwise I think she looks good. I was hoping to get a second opinion from some more seasoned vets.

Your baby girl looks normal to me for being a week old. The spots are from a pest like spider mites. It might just be old damage. I wouldn't take any action about it just yet. Keep a close eye on your new leaf growth, and if the spots start to show up on the new leaves. Then you know 100% they are still there. It does have a bit of nute burn (brown dry, cracking leaf tips), just keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse. You might be over watering it a bit ( sides of leaves curling under) and just the starting signs of cal/mag deficiency ( purple/red stems and stock).

Definitely bugs... But looks to be healing rather than deteriorating...

What are you using for nutrients?

And at what strength?

I only ask because looking at some of the other leaves they look brown on the tips...

I've checked it over with a magnifying glass and I cant see any bugs on the leaves ... I checked the underside as well.

As far as nutes go, this is a bit embarrassing because I know how wromg it is ... but all I had at my disposal was continuous release plant food pellets. I was conservative about them because I knew it was a rash move. When I noticed the tips burning a bit I scooped out most of them (all of the ones I could find.) The major burning is old ... the newer parts have been confined to the tips. As far as I can tell, it hasn't gotten worse and I removed the pellets three days ago. Please, dont ridicule me on this I quickly learned that lesson.

Thanks for your help. Since I haven't seen any mites/pests would you suggest just keeping an eye on it fpr the time being?

Thanks. I suspected I was over watering a bit. I'll definitely lay off. I'm so nervous to fuck it up that I've been a bit overzealous. But at least I'm learning what not to do on the little one.

yes he's over feeding and overwatering but no it has nothing to do with the dots your seeing he has bugs.. mites leave white dots

look at the underside of the leafe you will see bumps those are the eggs... the mites are harder to see sometimes but they are always on the back side of the leaves generally. ... normally they will look like mini black micro dots. sometimes they move a good amount sometimes they sit and feed and hardly move so they can be hard to distinguish

your leaves are drooping and the tips are browning and dieting because your keeping the media too wet. see how little your plants growing outwards and its just going up?

its because your keeping the media wet and loaded with nutrients so the roots have no need or want to spread and seek food..the soil needs to dry so the roots spread marijuana plants only grow just a few inches outside their roots. your roots aren't spreading so the plants not growing.

you need to let the media completely dry before each watering and you should only be using nutrients once a week.. say monday.. you feed... then maybe wednesday or thursday however long it takes to dry, you'd feed plain water you yourself would drink.. wait two days and start the cycle again..

Hi Phil,

I'm using an organic soil. I forget the brand, but there's nothing added but a touch of perlite. I've definitely been overwatering, so I'm laying off now. Like I said before, I was just a bit touchy about letting it dry up. Rookie mistake, I'm sure. Thanks for the heads up. If I ease up on the watering, should I start seeing outward growth resume?

As far as mites .... I've taken a magnifying glass to the underside of the affected leaves and the top side several times. I don't see any further evidence of mites beyond the spotting. I'll take another look, but I didn't see the black spots at all or any bumps that might've been eggs ...

yeah your growth is going to dramatically change when you let it dry... also your using a potting soil so its 2-3 times denser than a promix.. the roots don't breath well in it you need more perilite but the main thing is just get it out of a potting soil and into a promix or something.. the potting soils stay soaked a lot longer than promix does ... your overwatering and dense soil is really whats creating the issues

a lot of them have shit like vermiculate and other items that help store water. you really don't need that you want the soil to dry since your indoors.. potting soils are fine for outside or like trees inside you only water once a week maybe.... but not the best option for meds

All in all you think I'll be okay? I keep checking on it and nothing has gotten significantly or noticeably worse in the past 60 - 72 hours. I have no immediate solution for the soil, so it'll be a little while before I can transplant it.
