I'm kind of confused. Are you saying you had pre flowers of both sexes?
Whats your grow details (temp, rh, hydro/soil)?

6 had balls and 2 had white hairs but the 2 females started growing balls a week later. Herms. Soil is decent grade potting soil and temps during lights on are around 25degrees celcius an 15-18 lights off

They where still in veg and i had topped them but new heads were around 6inches tall. A couple times the temp got upto 30degrees but not often

you didn't use fem seeds or clones?
when you top them, clone the cutting under 12/12 so you can sex the plants while still in veg... its the surest way with bagseed and reg.

There are a few things you can do, to give you a better percentage of getting females with regular seeds. You can add more nitrogen to the room, make sure there's less potassium in your nutes or soil. You also want a higher humidity for seedlings that's another plus and also lower the hours of light like chester said I'd personally go with 14/10 or 16/8. The less stress and the more stable the environment ensures more females.

Nitrogen to room? You mean more air flow? Cheers for advice

That's one way of getting nitrogen into a room i suppose. The air outdoors is abundant in nitrogen. But I was specifically intending the use of a CO2 tank/regulator. It also can make the end result have 10%+ more bud depending on how efficiently you use this method

I'd take regular over feminized any day, you got so much creativity ...then one day you make your own femz, that day .....rocks!
I totally get that, I wish I had the resources to go down that road in a systematic way. Hell, even pollen chucking is fun but I need to make every plant count.

There are breeders that offer clones - but are generally sold at legal shops or collectives; one must have a MMJ card. But one can get seeds from clone/s strains that are offered at many seed banks - just need to look a little harder because there are so many banks out there today

you don't wanna be a noobie learning to grow clones first of, on your first grow, like ..as you get no magic vitality with clones, also they are as old as the mother,
that vitality is vital to understanding basic plant care and the way shit works.
you gotta ask yourself ..'how long do I intend to grow weed?' the shock may well upset you ..
as often a correct understanding of how plants work is better, far better than knowing how to turn on your phone and punch up RIU?
I doubt very much if any person would sell you clones in nz, better is craigs list in Ha?

That's a dangerous game in my mind. Some strains have different photo periods than others. Some could start flowering at 13h. Or 14. Never had problems with 18h and I have popped hundreds of different strains. I suspect either unstable genetics (which happened to me in a room with multiple strains, where only 1 strain hermd halfway through flower), or possible like leaks (for example through your intake/outage or through the shitty zippers they put on those things.

Shitty luck on the herms...

Ive only ever done seed grows. Given that any one seed is a 50 50 chance to be female, I always go 4 to 1 on germenation...meaning if i want one female then i germ 4 seeds.

That is because out of 3 seeds odds of getting a female are quite certain, but i germ a fourth seed because some seeds just dont pop.

Expensive yes, but it sure beats wasted time...

This way the worst problem is the one i had last round. To get 4 girls i germed 15 seeds. And guess what? I got 7 girls...had to choose the best 4 of those, which is hard... and harder still was killing the other 3. Just didnt have the room....

Shitty luck man, get back on the horse. When planting unknown seeds, especially bagseed..start at least twice as many as you want in the end. I didn't have great luck on the male/female ratio when i did bagseed, but the good ones i did get, I had a hot pink, fruit punchy plant once...totally worth it. It's easy enough to cull any you can't fit. I had a buddy sprout 100 to end up with 6 girls...All different plants, but they were all fire, one was a crazy sativa that took 16 weeks to flower..probably in my top 3, and i have no idea what it was.

Yea it sucks lol but iv got 11 seedlings underway again now so iv changed the hours so its "night" during the night so its pitchblack in house. Added heater to keep at around 18 degrees at night and its day temp of 26-27 has been steady. Hopefully i get something out of this
