Replacing my 600w hps with CBX3590 Cobs. Need help!

Hi guys, basically is what it says on the tin...

I have a 600w HPS and i was wondering how many CBX3590 3000k I would need and what meanwell drivers in what mA?

I was hoping to use 4 or maybe 6 chips per heatsink.
I will get my stuff from Jerry.

Can you give me a hand choosing the mAmps and drivers i should run to get maybe the same result I am getting from my 600 HPS. But with COBs.

UPDATE for the first time readers:
Decided, with the help of our mates to go for 3 heatsink slabs of 4 CXB chips each with a meanwell 185 700mA dimable per lamp.

Thanks for all the help!
Appreciate it...

Greengenes is getting ready to release a cxb3xxx at the end of the month that will give you right under a 600w hps will, Pacific light concepts is the company name and going to drop using 3500k cobs at first pushing 300w.

Yeah, but I am looking to make my own lamp. Don't get me wrong... I dig @Greengenes707 work and would love to have his new lamp! But I live in South America, so importing the chips and drivers will cost a lot less than importing a full lamp.

that is a odd space for a 600w... i've run a 2 x 5 before with a 600hps though. It did work well.

I'd probably make 2 - 4' light strips, 200w each. You could probably even just add a extra driver and make them 250w each. That would be a nice setup...easy too.

10 cxb 3590s
2 - 4' heatsinks....or rail with cpu coolers
2 hlg 185c 1400
2 lpc 60 - 1400

Something like that....easy schmeazy...:P

Well, I'd say you could get 24CXB3590's and 3 meanwell HLG-185H-C700B drivers. That would get you to right around the 750PPFD range. CPU coolers might be a viable option for you to import since they're fairly compact and offer a lot of cooling potential.

You see... I was trying to save $$ in Cobs, I know i should drive them at around 50% efficiency.
But 24 creeds is 1k + USD!!! Add import taxes of 60% and you can see I am Fu****.

I like the Idea of two heatsinks with 150ish/200 watts each.
The actual space for the plants is 4x4.

How about running two cxb3590 per heatsink, driving them at 1.4mA using a meanwell 185 1400?

Is that even possible? I think it would run short in output watts this driver.

I think 200w per heatsink would be GREAT! Trying to do this with two maybe 3 chips and one driver per heatsink, even better. I can't invest much on chips.

It would be sweet to run them @ 1.4! Each COB would put out something like 100w.
If Iam not mistaken... Where is @SupraSPL when you need him? lol

Driver suggestions for this two COB CXB bar @ 1.4 mA? Please!

Is it possible to run 3 CXB getting 250W per heatsink using cheapo drivers?
Like... one driver per cob?

You can run two, 72v CXB3590's @1.4amps using a meanwell HLG-185H-C1400B and they would be ~40% efficient. With two, 200w bars you would be looking at about 500PPFD in a 4x4, and the footprint would not be the most uniform but still better than a single point source. If you have the finances, you would be much better off getting 8 of the 36v CXB3590's which would be 51% effecient which would be about 635PPFD which is about 21% more light over the 4x4 and have pretty uniform footprint.

What is the optimal PPFD for flowering? 750?

I think I better spend more and build two 300W bars. With 6 cobs each. Both dimable.
I will need two drivers per bar to achieve that right? What drivers are we looking at @bicit ?

I grow mainly badass sativas (90 days+), so they need A LOT of light.

That's a great question. Still a much debated topic. SupraSPL runs 750 in his space, betatestteam on icmag recommends 1500. Depends on your preferences, situation, and budget.

72v CXB3590(x3)+ 1 HLG-120H-C700A

~51% efficient, ~950PPFD.

There abouts, but I would break it up into four bars instead of tw. JMO
Got Ya!

@bicit How many PPFDs do you think I can pull from this setup that you helped me choose?

I have same space as you And i have 3 bars 4 cxb3590 And hlg-185h-700b per bar And seems to work incredible!!
Wow that is a good benchmark. Thanks for the input.
@Actionbone , how many watts are you pulling and do you have an PPFD estimate?

Bitcit:

72v CXB3590(x3)+ 1 HLG-120H-C700A

~51% efficient, ~950PPFD.
Thanks a Lot for your time and patience @bicit !
You were very helpful mate. Cheers

One last thing 950 PPFD total right, both lamps at full chat?

If im not wrong you will be near 950-1000 ppfd m2 in a 4x4 tent really nice intensity
~950 PPFD for the 600w lamp. Actionbone should be getting about the same.

I'd go with his setup, since 3 drivers will be cheaper than 4.
