First time grower; Am I getting a phosphorus deficiency?

Hey all,

First thanks so much for taking the time to review and help out, it really is appreciated.

First time grow for me, indoor grow, soil, just starting the 3rd week of flowering. I've been watering every 3rd and now 2nd day.

Watering has went up from 4 litres every 3rd day to 5 litre every second day (really started last couple of days). Every water I've used nutrients. I've recorded pretty much the grow with temp (hi/low) humidity (hi/low) feeding amounts if there is value in that info.

I started to notice some red stalks appearing, the most of which are appearing at the top of the plant. Plant (to my untrained eye) looks like its in okay health but i do feel that there is drying or the leaves, couple of brown spots on the lower leaves.

I've attached a few photos to give an idea of the generally health and a few of those nagging spots that seem to be bothering me. Do I have an issue here or am I getting grower paranoia?

If I've missed anything or further info is required then just let me know and I'll be right on it.... again thanks for your time

EDIT: Never watered enough to get run off apart from that first soak (realise this now was probably the wrong thing to do). Watered just there 8 litres (2 gallons) for run off which I just tested as 6.1 ...maybe just drying out?

...Just to add, I retested the run off again 3 hours later it was at 6.3 so I don't think Ph is a problem

I've become paranoid that I'm doing something wrong or that something is going wrong every time i notice a mark. I think i might need to spend less time looking at grow problems on the net

They look great . . .. .

BUT as is so often in pictures, could be the light . . . . .

I'd say the middle of the canopy is the green we're looking for, not the color green of the fan leaves below, which to my eyes, have a slightly bluer hue to them. (Picture 6)

With the evidence of the smaller sugar leaves not standing to attention, the fact that you're only just getting 6.3PH run off? . . . . .What has it been before?? Bring it up a little more imho

She is not deficient, P is ever so slightly locked out . . . . . PH everything going in to 6.7 for a few waterings, allowing for a fair bit of run off . . . . . she'll perk back up again

Also, I have noticed the very ends of most of the serrations of the leaves are just starting to turn up, a sign of a wee bit too much nutrient to process . . . .ime . . . . if temps are in check

Last water was yesterday and it was the first time I’ve ran only water (no nutes) through the plant.

New leaves are a lighter, almost clearer green that old/established leafs. Pic 2 (2263) I feel is a good representation of their colour. If you open the larger picture (directly click on the file name) you can see the difference in colour between the starting bud and the surrounding leaves.

On the leaf turn up, I go with your suggestion on the temp being more probably? I’ve been having issue trying to keep the temp and humidity down. Light is 400w and is roughly 12 inches from the canopy.

I’ve attached a clipping of my last couple of weeks grow notes. Also plant is in a 35 (might be 40) litre pot.

Big fluctuations between minimum and maximum temps too.

What do you have P and K wise? What's your line up of nutrients dude???

M<ax humidity at night I guess; you're defo gunna need to bring that down with some better extraction before buds start to swell . . . .

Ya 38 was not cool, literally, but no point hiding bad data. Got to be honest and record what happens. Right now (sleeping) its temp:20.2 - Hum:64.

Humidity is problematic, the intake from the room is high humidity. I've a gauge inside and out and its the same humidity in and out the tent. I'd really need to consider getting an extraction pulling from outside and that could be difficult.

On the P/K too be honest, I'm have no idea. Using Biobizz Grow, Bloom and Top-Max

I've been following this grow chart http://www.u-grow.com/support/biobizz-growschedule.pdf ...I'm working off the top half of the chart (All-Mix) and I'd be in grow vertical column 6 now.

Feeding the quantiles described in the chart y-milligrams to 1liter. Other than that I'm pretty much clueless.

So yeah, happy to take suggestion on what nutrients you'd recommend.

You've got me investigating. General consensus seems to be not to use Top-Max from the biobizz range as it leaves a metallic taste

Least I've not time to cut it out/down now I suppose.

Ok cool, so organic, wont be PH lock out then . . . . . looks like she needs more PK, BAC Organic PK is great stuff, though there is N in it.

So you're on a constant feed; that's my kinda scheddule too; but it can get heavy on the girls.

Do you have a liquid enzyme concentrate and humic / fulvic acid? The humic will add rich organic material to the root zone, and will chelate nutrients left in the soil. Will probably combat any "metallic taste???" form Top Max too. Not heard of that one, but never run the stuff. Fulvic is the "smaller sister" to humic, it's molecules are much smaller, available ionic nutrient is attracted to the charge of the fulvic molecule, sticks to it; the fulvic acid has no problems passing into the plant through the root membrane, the ionic nutrient from humic can do it on its own but it happens much faster with fulvic!!

Enzymes will break down all the dead root matter, (there'll be lots n lots by now, lol, if you haven't run any), and will turn it into readily available nutrient for the plant and biology. And leaving room for fresh new roots to form and get to work.

Your working in ml, is this coz of the grow schedule or are like UK ??

How much water does it take to get a quart of run off after totally soaking your medium?

I'm asking, as I'm puzzled, how can the amount of water you are watering go up?? (You mentioned going from 4 to 5 litres in your first post).

You should be using the same amount of water with every drenching. Are you watering to run off every time???

The only growing nutrients I have are those mentioned Grow, Bloom and Top-Max. As far as I understand Top-Max is a Humic and Fulvic acid. An enzyme concentrate I don’t think I have unless it’s part of this biobizz complete range but I don’t know for sure.

It could be that it needs more PK nutrients as since I’ve not been flooding the pot during feed (no run off) I could actually be under. My pot is 35-40 litres (7-8 gallon) with only 4 litre of water going in on feed days. Soil moisture meter was showing it was getting super dry by the second day, this is a big pot and it seemed it was drying super-fast, she’s drinking a lot of water or I'm not providing enough of it. That's why I upped the water from 4 to 5 litres.

When I realised I should be trying to get run off (last night) I put in 9 litres (just PH6.5 water) for about 20% run off. Now remember I've been supplying feed mix ratio to a watering schedule that would not have been flooding the plant at 4L water and food.

The exhaust goes out the same roof vent as the on suite extraction unit, using a Y-splitter to allow a second connection on to the vent out. And yeah, UK based, hence the big swings in temp.

UK rock on . . . been 6 months ish back now, but had a great couple of years over there growing with my brethren Yeah, if you're UK, you need TNC in your life, at least for your next grow . . . .The Nutrient Company, top biology for the soil, side by sided it with most things, clear winner. Oh yeah, order a bottle of their Molasses, stunning stuff. It'll feed your bacteria in the soil, making more sugars available for the plant, great source of or organic K too, as your leaves could be a little shinier/healthier, only a lil bit though.

Sooooooo we've got to the bottom this little problem just in time I'd say.

Make enough water up EVERY TIME, to completely drench the soil, AND give you 500ml ish of run off!! If you were not scrogging, I'd say get a bucket under the pot and bottom feed it, allowing for the dry areas to drag moisture into them, rather than have gravity rush moisture past them

You wont need any PK, quick peak to make sure PH is somewhere above 6, ah the luxuries of organic runs; and you're good to go!!!

Get Molasses and an Enzyme Concentrate in your schedule; you'll be bleating with WOWweeeeeee coz u did

So what you're 1315hrs over there right now? Sun out?? Prob raining, lol. Grow room light on??

Have you considered running your lights on at night, ain't tricity cheaper at night there? Plus it's cooler at night so you'll never get to the temps in your table. BUT, if you have hot days (lol), (when your lights are off) that exceed the lights on temps inside the tent, things go bad, very bad! That can easily be combated with a heater in the room at lights on, if needs be.

You got summer in full swing now no? It was pretty hot for the UK last year I remember, even if just for a few weeks. I'd be switching to night time light on bro

Yes it would have been 13:25 over then its 15:07 now. Sorry was out buying wood for a fence (unrelated) …Lights are off and temp inside the tent is currently 25.8, its roasting again here, it’s a struggle to keep the room cool.

Typically the coolest temps are when lights are off but when it’s hot like today they just never go down. As said its 25.8 just now and that will cool again as it goes towards lights on and when it does its just going to go right back up there again.

I’m running 18:00 to 06:00 lights on to battle the summer time but, really if I thought about it more I should have pushed it out another hour or two to give evening heat a little more time to cool.

On the enzymes (dutch pro) and the nutrient company I don’t really know enough about these nutrients to know how much to mix against each other and how often. That’s why I started with the biobizz combo, no brainer follow the chart. Seemed like the easiest option.

Is there any good reading on understanding nutrients and there mix ratios?
