Chilling my reservoir... Possible consequences?

I've got two, 5 gallon reservoirs as DWCs. I'm using 20-oz soda bottles as freeze packs to keep the temps down. They last a couple hours before they thaw out, although the temps aren't terribly high.

A couple things I was wondering about...

Is it going to harm the roots if they touch the frozen water bottles?
I've been just sitting them in the reservoir letting them float, should I try and keep them sunk at the bottom?

I'm using those net pots that are also bucket lids, so the bottle usually just floats up in between the side of the net pot, and the wall of the bucket.

I haven't noticed any negative changes in my plant since I started using the bottles to cool the res, if anything they seem to be doing better. I just feel like if the roots are touching the bottle there might be some consequence I don't know about lol

What's your thoughts on the matter?

Speaking of damages lol.
Just checked my res, and some how a long stand of a root broke off. I think it was the bottle moving around.

and no I trim my roots when there young all the time you good

Sweet, thanks. I was worried that it might shock the plant or something if the roots were damaged. I am getting tired if changing out water bottles lol.

I used to put a 2 liter bottle frozen in my 5gal DWC and had no problems. If you stand it up when you freeze it it should stay upright in the res

I did it that way for years no problem,then 1 day a guy said wrap it with newspaper then ten foil,I did not think much of the idea but tried it.I haven't caught temp above 69* since.
Just my experience might not work for you.Good luck!!

or you could just use an air conditioner in the room, and keep it at a nice cool temp

I'm still using the frozen 20oz bottle. Just being careful where I put it now. The res is staying at about 65 Fahrenheit

A/C... Not only will it keep both the water and room cool but the buds will end up dense and dank.
