I call this mixed coco. I've grown with straight coir, (coffee grounds). And coir mixed with the pith (the thin strands from the husk) which IMO preforms better than straight coir. I've taken it a step further to include coir, pith, and chunk, by mixing a coconut mulch. Coco wicking to keep moisture levels is the same, but the new geometry with the chunk leads to more space for air.
I live in an area where the cost of living is high, but that pile of coco cost me $26. And will last my small grow operation well over a yr.
