(pictures) White marks, don't think its mites! Any ideas?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, also new to growing. This is my first ever plant, it was a seed i received as a gift, germinated it, purchased some AMAZING soil and planted it, its been 3 weeks now, i haven't given it any nutrients, the soil I'm using has a lot in it. Every plant iv potted in this soil has grown 4 times its size in like 2 weeks. (Canna 50L Terra Professional Soil Mix)

So anyway, I'm going to start feeding it on its next feed (in 2 days). Today i noticed a few white marks on some of the leaf, now i did some searching and i can't figure it out, i don't think its mites or spiders, i can't see any other signs under the leaf or anything and the plant looks very healthy and bulky and very green.

The white spots look almost as if the green colour has been scratched off, they don't feel any different to the touch, no bulge no indentations or anything, just a colour change.

Anyone have any idea what they could be? I just purchased a little hand held telescope and some neem oil just in case, but will be a couple of days before they are delivered.

Any ideas?

Edit: I am not using lights or anything, I'm using natural sun light, i put it out during the day, and bring it in at night.

Welcome to the outdoors (kind of). Your plant is fine, get use to seeing a small amount of leaf damage or bug bites. It's just part of growing outside. Your plant is old enough that a little bit of damage isn't going to affect it at all. Just keep your eye on it.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. Are you sure its nothing to worry about? I got my microscope today and looked under the leaves and i can see around 4 or 5 different types of bugs Are these anything to worry about? One of them kind of looks like a spider i think :-s

If you want to hit them with a light bug spray before you put it outside each day, it will help keep a pest problem in check. Your going to get bugs bites either way. I don't worry about pests to much, unless I start seeing major damage. Just do what you feel is right. All I'm really trying to say is, no matter if you spray your plants everyday, if they are outside your going to see some damage.

I don't worry about pests to much, unless I start seeing major damage. Just do what you feel is right. All I'm really trying to say is, no matter if you spray your plants everyday, if they are outside your going to see some damage.

Gotcha! Guess your right, will those standard bug sprays you get from plant stores ok? I'll just spray a bit on it each day before the sun gets too hot and pray for the best

Some of those critters might be mites, but keep in mind that there are mites that prey on other mites, so you probably have nothing to worry about as long as the 'bad mites' don't get out of control. If they do, you can just blast them off your plants with a stream of water. Or just give them a light misting because the mites supposedly don't like wet areas. Also, if the nights cool down where you live, try leaving the plants outside, because lower temps are supposed to slow down the mites' reproduction process and also they feed more when the temps are higher, or so I'm told.
