Does anyone have a price breakdown of the units that they can post here? The URL to their private forum is a pain in the ass (imo).

So far it appears they have only committed to a price on the initial offering of the 4000k Vero-based unit (and that's on the website). I'm not sure about the rest, its a bit like pulling teeth.

Estimated Ship Date: 3-4 weeks as of 7/25/15. It could be sooner, it could be longer.

If it's A51, I'll bet a longer...way longer lol
I hear you. If they could commit to a window (even a three week window) -- if it were a commitment to deliver... I'd be on board. I want these lights, but I have simple basic expectations for companies I do business with.

For all the talk about competition heating up, apparently it hasn't heated up enough to push companies into a normal/standard level of commercial professionalism. Maybe I'm just "uptight", but when I've been in production based industries -- deadlines, delivery dates, and comprehensive communication with current and potential customers (i.e. the coherent dissemination of relevant information) -- was the baseline. We were accountable. Apparently in this industry you can get away with R&D lags, ambiguity, and a totally dysfunctional method of communicating with customers. Must be nice, I think I was in the wrong business(es).

So maybe my expectations are inappropriate. Maybe this is a completely different realm. Perhaps this is all just stoners building cool shit for other stoners, and time is just a concept, and I need to chill out and smoke more. Must be nice...

You were most definitely banned. I don't need competitors on there with fake accounts talking down to me. I Googled the email address you used to sign up and your whois info came up for your company's website. That's the very reason I banned you. You're sneaky, you're rude, and you act like a know-it-all. That kind of nonsense is not welcome there.

If you spent the energy you use on talking down to others and creating fake accounts on forums, and instead use that same energy and put it into making a good product, maybe you'll actually succeed, and maybe your customers won't get electrocuted either.

So, if you would, please focus on yourself.

I've noticed you're a fan of taking words out of context and spinning webs for others to fall into.

I made one account awhile back and used it to log into your forum recently yet you deem that as a fake account? Hmm. I glanced over some posts and noticed your lack of knowledge over the temperature ranges of the very products you're selling and shared a link for you to check out on how the temperatures vary for different COBS, yet you got mad, took the comment as an insult, and banned me for trying to help you better truthfully answer your potential customer base. Nice one.

You won't have to worry about your past customers getting electrocuted from my new products because that's all been resolved, with that past anomaly being apart of building the product into something greater, something A51 can't quite offer.

Take your BS elsewhere, this is a information thread. I don't ever remember EH posting any such nonsense in any of your threads.

I came here looking for information (just a few posts above this one) and was greeted by EH himself. He decided it was a proper time to start a poking war and as you can tell, I poke back when poked.

Edit:

It's actually funny that you mention EH posting nonsense in one of my threads, as it brought me back to one of the earlier threads from awhile back...

As you can tell, Sunni had to lock the thread because Jeff and "Alpha & Omega" got heated over some random shit. The thread itself wasn't to be taken seriously at the time, but served some purpose.

Maybe EH feels you're hijacking a thread that has nothing to do with you? I am a member on his forum, though I can't afford any of his lights or any new lights for that matter, but I like the info. I saw your post before he deleted it, you came off as a pretentious jackass. I would have kicked you out too. I hope you get sued for libel.

Remember this post? Then remember how you had to recall all your lights because they were death traps?
I can't wait until someone offers that! O wait, I will be.. next week!

The prices for volume discounts are on the Area 51 website with the link I posted here on the previous page,if that's what you mean. Take this BS elsewhere.

We all have our moments. I take it you have never DIY with COBS?

I just realized they uploaded the product on their homepage.

Why do you care what I do? If you must know I am making a DIY COB light. I learned a lot from Greenjeans threads, and I learned nothing from you other than you jumped the gun with your light and put people's lives in danger.

Almost killing all of your customers is not "having a moment". I see you're trying to downplay that a lot. Before I retired in the 90s, I was a carpenter and electrician, me and my son. We had our own business in North Carolina. If we ever did a job that had exposed wires or circuits that could electrocute someone, we would have been sued and we would have lost our license. I don't think you understand the severity of what you did. Do you even have a business license?

One thing I do know about owning a business, libel is something you need to be careful about. I've seen you badmouth Greenjeans and his company too. Just because you started a company and have your little website and your little Yahoo email, doesn't mean you're the big man on campus now. You still have a lot to learn, and attacking other people's companies is not the right way to go about things.

You make a lot of great points and I thank you for sharing your experiences and advice with me and the others. I look forward to checking out your DIY work!

@BigEasy1

Nothing really, besides one using (homemade?) reflectors and the other using lenses (ebay?). Optic does boost their 500W unit to 2.8A, with A51 cruising with currents around 2.1A. Does anyone have any insider info on the drivers A51 utilizes?

What's the difference between Area 51 COB lights and the Optic Vero Cob's?

Area 51 is a single COB unit and the Optic has multiple COBs and the number depends on what output you choose. Looks like they both use Vero 29 v2.0 COBs. I like the single COB idea,it's easier to fit multiple small units to fit a space with even coverage. I don't see a chart on Optics site for PAR numbers over it's coverage,my guess is it has big numbers directly under the unit but it falls off dramatically outside of that,COBs are spaced too closely for the more powerful units. Area 51 runs open COB with reflector vs Optics lensed unit, you can run a open COB closer to the plant if your limited in your height.

The PAR numbers would look good in between the 2-4 COBS from the Optic grow light, with a sliding decline in PAR the farther out you'd go but the same would happen to the individual COB units A51 sports, with faster declining due to distance apart from the other COB(s) in the case of separated W90 units. But A51 has it where you can connect the COB units together, which would probably bring the COBS closer to one another than the Optic units, based on visual inspections. Either way, all around decent products and the prices for LED/COBS are getting better for us growers.

As for the optics, I don't really know whether or not it makes a difference if you use a reflector or lenses with respect to distance between light and canopy. Why would it?

Only point I was making is that the A51 light is more flexible, you can connect them together or hang them separate so they can be adjusted to a uneven canopy, say with different strains or to even out the light over your space,. I can guarantee there is a problem with even coverage on the more powerful Optic units, this is common among manufacturers, especially with lenses.
