We lost pressure this morning while I was showering.
The pressure just went so after looking at it for a while hubby called the plumber and he told him that the pressure with a tire guage was 'zero.'
So plumber boy told him to purchase a new tank. Hubby wanted him to come over but this dude said that he would save us some money.

Now hubby has put in the new tank, bought a new pressure switch and he wants to know :

How to wire up the pressure tank?

Hubby says that right now it is holding pressure so he doesn't understand.

PLEASE for the love of &*%*^% someone tell him SOMETHING!!!

Does the water have to fill up before the pressure works properly? That is what i said to him but I don't know anything about it.

When mine went out... there was water everywhere in the garage. The new heater cost me about $800 (purchase and installation). That included a new requirement (in the US) to have a "pressure overflow" system put in.

Are you talking about a water heater... or is this some other type of tank?

To me a loss of pressure sounds like either a water heater corroded somewhere in the unit (therefore only pressure is from the cold water delivery) or there is a break in a pipe somewhere... which I suspect if were the case you would see somewhere.... and you would see it quickly.

Not sure if I can help.... but I'm pretty good at do-it-yourself stuff (including wiring).... If it's an electric water heater, then it will have to be wired into the main. In newer houses the romex cable is built into the walls, whereas in older homes it is run across the ceiling in the garage. The water heater should come with an instruction booklet which should diagram out the wiring.

I'm not sure if I'm any help here... but at the very least I helped bump your thread for the experts

P.S. I could have installed my own water heater... but mine broke in summer heat and humidity and I didn't feel like busting my ass in the humidity and I didn't have a welder at the time to weld the pressure overflow system into place so I said "fuck it" and paid to let someone else sweat it out in my garage

No it is not the hot water tank.
That is new as of last year.
It is the water pressure thank from the well. We live in the country and are on well water.
The builder just did the bare minimum and didn't even use the proper fixtures so hubby has gone out and bought all new stuff.


The pressure seems to be ok and now he is saying that he thinks he has it. I hope so. He's quite the handy man. There hasn't been anything in this house that he hasn't been able to fix yet.

If your house gets flooded then it's likely a pipe break and not the tank. When tanks fail (I'm talking about water heaters) then the unit itself leaks. Typically these are in the garage or laundry room.

I wouldn't worry too much because if it were a pipe break YOU WOULD ALREADY KNOW IT!!!!

No there were no leaks at all. The pressure just went. We had a small 32 gallon unit or something. Now we have a 55 gallon or something

Shit... I don't have a well. But my guess is that it's above ground (as you didn't mention bringing in a back hoe to dig it out) .

If my dad were still alive I'd call him as he built 3 homes from the ground up (himself) and all had wells! God I miss him... he walked me through MANY a wiring project.

I take it the tank is outside? or is it in the house/garage? I wouldn't worry too much if it's outside... but if it's in the house or garage I'd want to make sure the wiring is correct.

Wish I was more help but it sounds like your hubby got it right if the pressure is building back up.... just check it for leaks over the next few days.

hey lacy is it psi or ppm... keep that to what they recoment because if it is too hight it will /could burst your pipes....hubby prolly knows this though...
