Because the main consumer is us, me and you, individuals, not the US government. Corporations supply their customers with product. Shell, Exxon, etc., buy from whoever is selling at the best price and turn around and sell it at a mark-up. The biggest receiver of oil wealth in our country is, however, government, via taxes.

We send paper, money, over seas, and get oil in return. A fucking great deal if you ask me. Last time I checked, cars don't run on paper.

Around here it's getting cheaper by the week as more and more ppl I know and teach are all growing their own! I've saved a few grand in the last 2-3 years since growing. I'll go low just for sake. my roomate and I each go thru at least one ounce a month so that's 24 ounces a year with our local prices it's $3000 if you multiply that by the 5 ppl I know doing the same that's $7500 a year less into our local (grower/dealers). I live in a small town 3-4 thousand, you can see how these figures really add up. Next year there will be even more ppl doing it as my friends are teaching others and on and on.

You make a good point in your previous post. In free markets, consumers ultimately control the price of commodities. If enough people stop buying, prices drop. If everybody starts buying, prices rise. Basic stuff really.

Comparing solar and wind power to nuclear power shows your lack of knowledge on the subject.. the cost/output isn't even comparable.. if it was don't you think the U.S. would be talking about more solar/wind power than building more nuclear power plants?

Can anyone tell me why Iran is such an "extremist" country besides something that you heard from the mainstream media? Why do people think Iran is so bad? Why do American people hate Muslims? I'm sure the American people wouldn't be so dumbfounded if the TV spewed forth some unbiased information every once in a while. Most people use the monopolized TV media as their source of information, assuming that the TV is telling the "truth".

People are products of their environment. If they are inundated with information saying "Iraq has WMD, and they harbor terrorists, and blah blah blah..", people will eventually believe it. Many people watch TV News, and many people believe that their favorite talk show host (or news station) wouldn't lie to them because how would these people know fact from fiction(when lies are mixed in with the truth)?

The more people are exposed to things, the more of a reality it becomes. Some people can't really think for their selves because they rely on their FOX News for assumed "credible" information.

Yes, the people of this country are brainwashed, but its because of the mainstream media that likes to convolute information.

I simply don't see how people without the internet, or any exposure to political talk, are going to become inquisitive enough to "want to know the truth and seek it".

(Hypothetically) For example, you are an average black person living in the "ghetto"/projects. You have no internet, and you don't have friends that are politically savvy, AT ALL! You almost have no exposure to current events besides what you watch on TV..

The TV says "Russia is now invading the poor little country of Georgia, and Iran could potentially have NUKES"..

Remember this black person doesn't have access to the internet, or even a dictionary or encyclopedia. He doesn't have friends that are politically savvy, and basically get brainwashed into believing what he watched on TV because he doesn't have access to alternative sources.

Can you blame this black person for believing what he does? I wouldn't be able to hold him responsible for the country, myself. I blame the mainstream media. The American public usually only gets to see and hear one side of things.. Hence, American idiots.

Instead of it being a black person, it could be anyone(Latino, Brazilian, White, Portuguese, French, German, your friend, cousin, aunt, uncle, brother, sister, etc, etc) that isn't exposed and/or doesn't have the means of searching for information.

I understand what you're saying. And absolutely it is the job of the informed to inform.

For the example you gave you asked how this person is going to "become inquisitive enough" to want to search the truth out. Another sad result of the flawed public education system, we never had to 'become inquisitive' it was always in our nature- if you dispute this, spend some time with a toddler. As a society we have conditioned OUT the inquisitive nature out of laziness, just waiting around for someone to tell us. As a society we must take responsibility for this. In a lot of cases, as adults we have to recondition IN this natural curiosity. When one has the drive to learn more, they will find a way. Even in the 'ghetto' lower class areas of the country there are libraries with internet access. I know this because for years I was at the library daily for my 'one hour limit' because we couldn't afford internet or a phone.

What I'm trying to get across is that as a society we have to take responsibility for the system of control we are under. And when you are the one informed, you must inform others- but you must also be able to admit and take responsibility for being involved in helping the system of control keep its control. As painful as it is to admit, it is each one of our faults for everything our government does in our name, for everything our media passes off as truth- we were the one's who propped them up and instilled this thought that 'if it's on the news it must be right'. They have no legal responsibility to tell the truth- and they have every legal right to lie.

I hope the underlying message I am trying to convey is understood rather than getting caught up in the specifics of how I am saying it.. as I'm rather sure we are both on the same page.. We just need to stop passing the blame..
