I just talked with a guy this morning who said they didn't make a noticeable difference in frost but he did see his yield drop a bit.

My physics text tells me that most glass blocks UV. Maybe theirs is 'special'. IDK, I'm going to do some more homework on the MV lamps.

Quartz if I rremember right won't block uv. Of course an outer enevelope of quartz would probably make your 150 dollar mh lamp a 500 dollar lamp.

My racks are big motherfuckers; six feet tall by 5.5' - 6.5' across and 9.5' long, more or less elliptical in shape when viewed from above. There's 144 ft² of trellis surface area in each one, currently lit by 4x 860W CDM lamps in two stacks at more or less the ellipse's foci. I have a socket in the exact center of the whole rack- until it got hot this summer, I was running an HPS thouie in it. I was just gonna run a fifth 860W CDM, but then I got to thinking;
I'm considering installing a 400W MV in that position and running it for increasing durations throughout the second half of flower, first to harden the plants off to its output, then to see how much UVB they want and what their response is.

Can I run this 24k BTU AC mini split off 1 indoor A/C mini split unit alone? Will it really put out that much cooling capability? Thing would be fridge status. With your calculation of 4k-6k per 1kw bulb.... Could run a lot of equipment off that single AC unit.

I see no reason why not, if everything is rated for it.
The reason many people like minisplits so much is that they can cool several spaces simultaneously.
If I'd known how much of a bitch water chilling was from the beginning, I might never have done it and just gone minisplit.
I'm getting a 5 Ton dual circuit heat pump (aka water cooled chiller), and that will do a proper job of cooling the appropriate rooms- and putting the accumulated heat to good use, such as domestic hot water, home heating, clearing the driveway of snow, heating the hot tub, warming the chicken coop...

You really want a 20% fudge factor so you're not totally overloading the unit. Do this off the average expected load, not the absolute maximum.

I went to school for these types of calculations. It's just a matter of digging through my binders and refreshing my memory to get back into formulas. We covered so many different trades..... HVAC, masonry, carpentry, landscape, and even surverying. Did alot of CFMs air exchange rates, Cubic Yards for soil cut and fills, picking the correct BTU unit based on diff temps w/specific R-value building materials, but never any electrical calculations I could apply here. Maybe just a simple... Don't go over 1440 watts-ish because of my old 15 amp circuits? Assuming this research is true.....
For continuous loads (on for more than three hours) the limit is 20% lower. So for 15-amp breaker, you can't draw more than 12 amps from the circuit for more than three hours, or 1440 watts (12A x 120V).

You can run multiple evaps off one condenser. The system im gonna be getting next year has one 4 ton condenser going to two branch controllers since the max is 5 zones per controller. i got 3 zones each controller.
System does 2-8zones. Smallest is 6kbtuhr. 4k will be a hard evap to get.
Dont know any that small. Even window units smallest is like 5.5k

13 SEER is garbage in todays world. its the bare minimum allowed to be sold. youre gonna want a multi zone. thats only going to cool one area.

Yeah the 4k BTU was just for example purposes. I didnt know if the unit split the cooling equally among the ACs or if you could adjust the temperature in each zone accordingly.

I still need to make the manifold. Probably gonna use 1/2 CPVC and fashion a mount that sits on top of the buckets to prevent the pipe from sagging once its filled with water. And to prevent the ends from lifting once its pressurized.
