Of course it's Supras fault again for talking all this high efficiency.
So I'm taking the plunge and doing a passive cooled high efficiency light.
It will be used over my usual double screen scrog in a 3x3 tent.

Parts are:

9-CXB3590 CD 36v 3500k's
9-800ma drivers
3-32" x 3.5" heatsinks

That's one COB per sq/ft and these are the numbers that Supra gave me that convinced me to do this build.

9 CXBs at .8A (26.5W) 62.3% efficient in a 3X3 = 14.9 PAR W/ft² or 740 PPFD averaged, 90W heat

Killer, this is like the latest sequel to your favorite series of movies. New subplots will develop; a previous unknown source will emerge from the shadows and enlighten; the status quo will find itself usurped by some new-fangled technology. I'm watchin' and obviously smokin'!

I bought my drivers from a member here,they were only used for a couple months and he tested their output and efficiency at 800ma and 90-91%. Got them and the heatsinks today and my tracking info says I'll get my COB's and holders Monday. I'll definitely have this put together next week,I've got a plant that should be ready for flower around the same time.

Well the COBs and holders showed up today,tracking said Monday. Had a very good experience today while trying to source a new forming tap for this project. My usual source doesn't stock forming taps so I googled from my phone and found a place a half hour away. I called and they said they usually don't deal with consumers but they accept local walk ins,turns out they are a drill and tap manufacturer and sell to wholesalers. The guy was a front office manager and very nice on the phone and met me at rear entrance. We had a long talk and he gave me two types of 5-40 taps,one was a unfluted bottom forming tap and the other is a two fluted chip pusher forming tap. After a nice conversation he told it was on the house and wished me luck with my project and sent me on my way with a smile and 4 taps and 4 drills for free. As someone that's starting to get up there in years I remember this kind of customer service was the norm back in the day but now a days it's a very rare thing. If your not local but have a company name I suggest ordering from these guys.

If you what to cheat and forget about the tap, you can. You just need to find a bit that is a fraction of a hair smaller than the machine screw. Test it on somewhere you don't want a broken bolt. You are only holding an ounce in place. I am using tampered head screws I got at Harborfreight and an 1/8 inch bit, I think. Just don't use a Harborfreight drill bit to drill your holes.

I did just that. Used m4 10mm screws and a non metric closely matching bit. Drilled through the thick sink.Screws hold tight.

I feel like im on the JV but it was first try

I also just drill a hole and use machine screws...no tap needed. Made everything a lot easier for me personally with my hand drill.

Looking forward to see if I can push my yield even farther,going from 529 PPFD to 740 PPFD with less wattage. I've got a 8" drill press from Harbor freight that only cost me $60.

i looked at harbor frieght recently and the cheapest drill press is now 139 bucks, so you got lucky,, I am looking forward to seeing pictures of the exact driver your going with, and numbers on the tag, so we can look those up, I am going to add cobs to my box after I harvest this grow i am on, and i need to decide the path going forward,
