A grow for science!!!! Yard dirt and tap water!!

Well its been 2 full weeks of 12 and 12 and no signs of sex yet.

I think it takes about 5-6 weeks before the plant shows sex from seed

so if you vegged for 3 weeks and flower, it could take 2-3 weeks before it shows sex

I vegged mine for 4 weeks and they have been in flower for 12 days and they have only just started to show there sex

That makes sense, they may not have been mature at the time of the flip.

Still healthy as can be though. My larger outdoor plant is having alot of problems though.

Yeah ill post some more next time i have a chance. My phone is being wacky so when i get to a computer ill post some.

Here is a shot of the whole cab for now. The lst plants are putting out alot of new shoots.
My vertical plant is getting way taller than i want and im gunna have to top it, but im trying to wait until sex shows because if its a girl ill use the top as a clone

Here is also a shot of the outdoor i was talking about. All of the tops have purple shit where the newest growth is. I also have a grasshopper problem.

I spread trazicide all over the area except directly near the plant. I was told the purple may be mold? I hope not. It was suggested that take the new growth thats purple off.

So here is a cab pic from just now. As you can see they are all doing well. Growing slow and steady. The tallest of the bunch is in the smallest pot. Im amazed by the fact that they aren't struggling with rootboundness.

I put my hand behind it to show a size reference. I haven't measured it but its in a 4 inch pot.

I can't help but wonder what happened to all the folks that swore these plants wouldnt grow.

The outdoor plant got a feeding of floraduo by General Hydroponics. The indoors just got dirt.

the plants look really heathy and you must be watering at the right time as the plants don't look to big for the pot, rootbound problems happen when the soil drys out and the roots grow quick looking for water or the plants been In a container too long

For some reason the one in the big white pots soil hasnt dryed in weeks. Its only been watered half the amount of times as the rest and at this point the soil is still moist after 2 weeks with no drink.

the folks that said they wouldn't grow do too much reading and not enough trial and error
there even a thread on here called (water only) and there plants are amazing

give my plants a very light feed and I know I am getting great results

For some reason the one in the big white pots soil hasnt dryed in weeks. Its only been watered half the amount of times as the rest and at this point the soil is still moist after 2 weeks with no drink.

the white bucket looks like it holds loads of soil, what 4/5 time more than the smaller pot ?

the plant in the white bucket is very small compaired to the bucket so the chances are the roots have grown large and drinking very slow so it could last a week or more before it needs water, just don't water early

if there no puple on the main stem the plants happy (puple =stress)

Im going to plant a few seedlings in a pot (far away from my other indoor grow) and use my backyard dirt, tap water and an incandescent bulb.

But now you're using cfl's, ferts, and you're not using regular backyard dirt. So it looks like it didn't work like you thought it would. Right? Or you'd still be using tap water only with incandescent light bulbs.


For the record, I'm glad your plants are doing well. I hope you make it all the way through to harvest.

I think the point mollymcgrammar was trying to make is I said you don't need a lot of light or any nutes in veg to get good results, lots of growers took the piss on this thread and my thread, the point is it works and with a bit of practice I know you can pull
a small yeild with the smallest buget spent on a grow. the main question you want to ask your self is why do the indoor plants look really heathy ?

simply they have all the food they need in the garden soil, buying loads of nutes is a waste of money

Its still yard dirt except for two of the pots. The lights definitely had made a diffrence though. The indoors never got any nutes and get tap water. The outdoor gets rain.

I wouldn't call nutes a waste of money, these plants are okay but they may not stay okay. They are also outgrowing the lights and that will be a problem. Hopefully when they sex and males are removed they will do better with more room

Also, the "water only" growers use an organic super soil mix that has enough organics to feed the plant. If the soil is good enough nutes arent needed.

The budget for the indoor grow here was under 30$, not including seeds. The outdoor grow was 13 and change because all i spent was that on the nutes i just bought.

You're good, I wasn't talking shit either. I was saying that most of the people that said your plants wouldn't grow were talking about incandescent lights and backyard dirt.

Incandescent lights will not work and I whole heartedly stand by that.

My reason for the incandescent was that it was called a "spotgro" and marketed as a grow light.

Yeah, they wouldn't really work.

The yard dirt has shown no diffrence compared to store bought soil
