Should I be clipping off the leaves near the bottom when the plant flowers? they are turning yellow and I'm thinking that all they do is take nute from the buds. Am i right about that?

Just yellow like nitrogen? How far into flowering? If just started and it's nitrogen are you still giving veg Nutes? If late in flower it's normal to yellow as the plant is taking all of the nitrogen from leaves. Could be lack of light depending on how far and how strong your bulb is etc

If they are less than 21 days into flower did you give them P-K already?

Cut the yellowing fan leaves off on the lower part. All of them. They are done. They use energy and block light to the lower bud sections. Don't screw stuff up trying to correct a deficiency in a part of the plant that the plant is done with.

Thats what I figured HRH. I'm about 2.5 weeks into flower. They are outdoors in 3 gallon pots haven't used any nutes. They were grown in Coast Of Maine Platinum Growers Blend that seems to be alot like SubCools super soil and they have done pretty well. I'm a little nervous about starting to add chemicals at this point. I was thinking that maybe I'd top dress and sort of cultivate it into the soil with something that could boost bloom growth. I know it should be high in P and K but haven't been to the farm store to see what that might be.
This is my first grow. Bag seeds from some super lemon haze and some sort of Kush not sure which, my son gave them to me so I'm hoping to do ok. I fimmed a couple times but never really topped them but really should have i guess. I would have gotten more tops but live and learn right.Still there are a lot of flowers, all about an inch long all over. They don't really smell of anything yet. just as well. Not anxious to advertise them.

We used to believe you should leave them. Old wives tales. In fact after a month into bloom I remove nearly all large leaves. A few every day and the plant increases bud size. In my own experience. Older leaves drain plant resources and add none.
