Greetings!

Getting close to putting in an order for 9-12 CXB3590 36v 3500k CD bin. I have a 4x4 gorilla lite tent not doing much ATM & after talking with @captainmorgan he suggested I start a thread for input from all of you knowledgable DIYers.

The tent & the COB's are the only things pretty much written in stone. I'm thinking heat sink USA as I drive past there from time to time & will save on shipping.

I really like the idea of passive cooling & am thinking on driving them @ 1400mA. Also am thinking of a nice grid work of some sort.

I only have a very basic grasp of LED tech & grows so be gentle ;) that being said I welcome any comments or suggestions toward the end goal of 2gpw TIA

If you can afford it:
(16) cxb 3590 3500K CD 36v run on (2) MW HLG185h-c700 // (4) 5.886" x 36-38" Long heatsinks. would be pretty legit for a 4x4 tent. setup will run you about $1300 all told.

Being close to heatsinkusa is pretty awesome, you will definitely save $40-50

I think 16 COBs would be my end goal for the space but starting out with about a $700 budget...bit more if I have to.

I started going through that thread...awesome info @SupraSPL thank you for taking the time to post that & all of the other helpful info I've seen from you.

To take a page out of Cap's book...what do you think about

3 - 42" http://www.heatsinkusa.com/3-500-wide-extruded-aluminum-heatsink/

With 3 COBs spaced @ 14" on all 3 heat sinks...a little over kill but the idea would be to eventually add another 42" heat sink & 7 more COBs to fill the 4x4 space. Starting point would be the 9 COBs though

42" still overkill with the end game in mind?

Like I said if you determine how much heatsink you need for each COB on a couple different size heatsinks for passive cooling at 1400 ma then you can decide on the best design for you. You may want individual or 2,3 or 4 COBs per heatsink, there are many ways to skin a cat. Same goes for the drivers, they can be individual drivers or a larger driver to drive multiple COB's,you can even get them with dimmers.

Bonjour
If you could find the brand new hlg-240h-c1400b you would be able to run 5 on it.But maybe it is not available atm.
Have a great day ★

That's because you forgot to convert that length of 42" to cm.

Eek!!!...ok so, this might be my FranJan moment.....

I have been using "surface area cm^2" as equalling the square centimeters for every inch of heatsink....

So for instance the 3.5" with 125cm2 : is good for 5 watts active cooled and 1.25-.1.15 watts Passive.....

Someone fix my broke :)

Nice to be corrected though, thanks Alesh :joint:

Yeah that explains much:)
"surface area cm^2" as provided by @SupraSPL is area per 1 cm length of HS. Perimeter has the same value in cm.
