They did really well for the first 3 days , they stood up tall reaching for the light and put out new growth with ease , all the sudden in the last few days they are acting like this... I got my PH at 6.0 and the strain is MK ULTRA ..... I'm doing everything exactly the same as last time and last time didn't have much of a problem at all . I just checked them a few minutes ago and they look worse then they do in the video that I made only a few hours ago , they are deteriorating rapidly it seems.Transplanting in hydro is stressful for plants, hydroton is heavy and putting a bunch over plant roots makes plants sad. I personally wouldn't expect anything for up to a week after a transplant. When the foliage starts to look light like that (necrosis) I take it as the plants using reserves to build a good root structure once that is done plants resume upper growth as normal. Keep a eye on the NEW growth (from your video looks good) as that is what tells you what the roots are doing.
On another note you never say what your pH is like or your ppm level or if your last round was of the same strain etc.... so many variables that can cause issues so the more info given the better the community can lend a helping hand.
I can't drop the level of the flood trey because the aparatus that it drains from is glued into the bottom , its permanent .. However I did raise the net pots up which gives the same effect. Also I put shredded rockwool in the bottom of the netpots to help the roots have something to grab on too and then covered it all in hyrdoton..... I think maybe the shredded rockwool is not drying enough and not getting enough air into it between flood cycles. So I think raising the net pots up 3 inches may be the fix. Thanks again.Drop the flood level in the tray 50% and water as per usual. Water does not need to be anywhere near the stock of the plant, I water every 4 hours for 30 min. I would think it would be hard to over water with only a 5 min flood cycle.
thanks I was thinking about putting some Panda plastic over it , i have some , white on one side black on the other... Never thought about the CD/DVD idea.. Good idea... However I am worried that my rootzone is not getting enough oxygen and is staying moist for too long and never letting the roots absorb air. So not sure if that would work .. My last grow I did it exactly as I am doing now and never had this problem. I can alter the moisture level by just adjusting the flood cycle and making sure my tank is full . I don't think my plants are suffering from not enough moisture at this point.Doesn't look like anything major really. Maybe salts are building up in the upper layer of hydroton. I would suggest putting some water through the pots from the top to flush them out. Should probably do that now and then, like maybe once a week. Something else you could try is covering the whole top of the medium with white plastic, like from white trash bags. That would keep evaporation down and water vapor would precipitate on the underside of the plastic and drip down through the medium thereby cleaning off any salts as it flows down. The white plastic would also reflect light up to the bottoms of the leaves. I do this with perlite culture. I put the perlite in shallow plastic baskets lined with a white kitchen trash bag and poke a hole about half an inch up from the bottom so there's a small reserve of nutrient solution in the bottom to last between waterings. I wrap the tops of the bags over the top of the perlite and around the plant stems. It works perfectly. The roots don't get suffocated or anything. Roots don't need much air. It keeps watering to a minimum because of no surface evaporation. It's only lightly wrapped around the stems so air can get in easily enough for the roots' needs.
Having the top of the medium uncovered just doesn't make much sense to me and the bag is right there so why not put the top over the medium, right? Just seems an obvious thing to do. With hydroton it would make even more sense, because it's way more open due to its coarseness. With small round pots like the ones your plants are in there's an easy way to reduce surface evaporation and also reflect light upward. You just snap a CD or DVD that you never use anymore in half and put the two halves together around the stem with the reflective side up.
The rockwool is your problem. I promise you. If that was 100% hydroton you would be fine.I raised the netpots up about 2 inches . I did some research and it looks like they may be over watered . So I think maybe the rockwool thats under the hydroton is not drying properly between floods. I'm gonna also reduce the frequency of watering to once every 6 hours instead of 4 .. Will let yall know if it works ..... If anybody cares to comment please do.
You had the right idea with the panda plastic. You don't want CDs or DvDs simply because they re-direct/re-focus light instead of reflecting it. Plus when you break a CD it leaves that awkward plastic shard mess... Who wants to deal with that? Some scissors and black n white poly is the way 2 go~ imo. Just little details I suppose.thanks I was thinking about putting some Panda plastic over it , i have some , white on one side black on the other... Never thought about the CD/DVD idea.. Good idea... Yeah, the CD thing was just something I tried out once. Not something I seriously recommend. The panda plastic would of course be the way to go if you have it.You had the right idea with the panda plastic.
