Can anyone conclusively identify this bug?

Looks like a sandfly, they don't seem to harm the leaves or buds but i notice their larvae (little white worm like things) in my root zone and i'm not sure how much of an issue this is.

Plants are 7 weeks into flower, and look like they have another week or two to go.

don't know but all you need to do is add 1 inch of sand on top of the soil, don't water the plants till the soil dry, don't have any run off in the tray.
they need damp wet area to live so they won't last long

most growers get them because overwater or leave run off in the tray from watering the plants

Have you used sand before? I've never really had problems with bugs before. From what i gather you're right i need to let the soil dry out.

as you in full flower keeping the nuber of gnats low is the best you can do

most gnats larval (fruit flies) lives in damp soil, soil keeping the top soil dry kills the larvel, don't think larvel can live in sand so stopping part of the life cycle of gnats will kill them off
hang lots fly paper will catch the adults

bacillus thuringiensis. Found in mosquito dunks or "Thuricide" Will kill the larvae therefore eliminating adults.

My drainage definitely isn't a problem, but i generally avoid letting them get too dry at this stage in the grow. I'll have the make an exception this time.

Have you used these before with soil? Do they have no affect on the plants?

as a soil drench. I don't remember the dosage, but as a drench so it gets to the larvae in the soil.

Dude just sand the top of.pots and add sticky traps and forget about dunks amd shit yes sticky traps sand and quit worrying

they still access the holes in the bottom of the pot anzohaze. i guess you could bury the bottom in sand though too.

Where talking gnats here...easy as shit to get rid of imo...do you know what you use? SAND. ..in a gnats world it's like rubbing against fiberglass....don't think it would work? Go rub your hand on rough fiberglass and tell us your response....I get your concern OP. ..just use sand and let dry out...I took a yellow strip and stuck it in a circle around my pot (well really a square bc my pot is square duh!lol) if your in flower is no about the mos. Dunks

Your fine! If it's really gnat larvae and not something like symphilids. ..you don't need to add sand at the bottom....just clean underneath where they sit, wall etc...go to local store and buy some strip it Will help out pretty well....MAKE SURE IT IS YELLOW they are attracted to the color
