the Pythium...

So i am a relative newb. The first 5 grows i did all came with increasing success. Then i moved. The first grow i the new place was a struggle. Couldnt get the seedlings going. Then slllloooowww growth. Followed by a dismal harvest. I suspected the water....

Now onto my second grow. Much more careful this time. But same problems....troubles getting the seedlings going....necrosis on them....few died... onto slllloowww growth again....

I think im getting the root rot....

During the first grow in this new place i was guilty of over watering. This time i have been way more careful.... every part of my game has improved since thise first 5 grows. The only thing that i can think of is .... the water...different house...different pipes... something must be in the water...because right from day one of sprouted seeds going into a soilless mix the damping off starts...

So. Go to RO water.. but if pythium something that RO will filter out?

And... i have some girls going right now...dont want to kill them and start over. Can i take the lively (non droopy and non necrotic) shoots and clone those to save this round? Or will those cuts just bring the rot with them?

Hey @Gquebed, those pics look similar to the problems I was describing in my thread. There are many forms of it, but it does look like you have some form of pythium. 150 ppm 3% food grade H2O2 mixed into your R/O or filtered water should take care of it, could take a generation or two to completely get rid of it, depending on the source.

As far as the source, finding it is critical for going forward, hoping someone chimes in with some thoughts/experience. I can't see it being in your water unless you're on an old well or something. BUT, it can't hurt to go R/O or some form of filtered water, UV filters would probably kill it (if it is in the water source) but they're expensive.

But i dont think i used it properly. I think my mix was too weak. When you say 150 ppm that is starting from 0 RO water? I have a meter, but any idea how many mls that is per liter? Or ounces per

I don't measure ppm's in the source water or anything. I just use filtered water and add 150 ppm to whatever container I'm using for water and get it as close as possible to 150 ppm of the H2O2, some examples below. When researching this, I found a couple of references saying you need somewhere over 100 ppm for it to be effective. As mentioned in my thread, the 150 ppm level has worked quite well with no mal effects on the plants, both in flower and veg.

1L container = 1.5ml (1.5ml / 1000ml = .00150 or 150 ppm)
1.9L bottle = 3ml (3ml /1900ml = .00158 or 158 ppm)
7L watering can = 10ml (10ml /7000ml = .00143 or 143 ppm)

The equivalent in gallons:
US Gallon = 3.785L or 3785ml so ~6ml per gallon
CAD/Imperial Gallon = 4.546L or 4546ml so ~7ml per gallon

Oh yeah, as mentioned above and in my thread, the 150 ppm is added from a cut version, cut down to 3% H2O2 solution. So if yours is 29%, cutting it down to 3% would mean 1 part 29% solution to 9 parts water.

I see no root rot(Pythium) but I do see nute burn, avoid any feeding until you see a positive return, better is to pot up but add an additional 20-30% perlite to the mix,
as you invert each pot to release it from th solo cup, sniff each root zone for that stinky rotten socks smell thats sticks with root rot, it you have it continue to add to the new pot but avoid any water...ok to foilar water...spray in 2 days tho, important is to dry the roots out, but not kill the plant, evidence exists of some Pm tho, so a spry of neem oil is much needed here, as a general all rounder ..go here and compare what you are doing ..https://www.rollitup.org/Journal/Entry/12-week-grow-sceneario-by-jorge-cervantas.30164/

I dunno.... I did start nutes a bit early... around day 25 at 40ish% strength. I thought nute burn starts at the edges and tip of leaves and works inward? Wheras, this necrosis started in the middle of the leaves and worked outward. Also, growth has slowed to a crawl and both the dried out WR and the freshly watered WR both had supper droopy, wilting shoots. Haven't seen any of that before...

You may want to take the worst plant and take a look at her roots to confirm. Are you feeding cal/mag besides what is in your water?

Giving them some H2O2 won't hurt them and covers you if there's anything going on in the roots. I'm continuing use of it in early veg right now to make sure mine's gone, if anything it's giving them a boost in veg.
