I brought a bag of soil in to my room that infested my grow ....... it was bad enough i chopped most my plants and took it as a loss ..... but i left the root balls that were still infested in my room i tried all sorts of shit sprayed spin , triazicide , and then i had a brain fart I use diatomatious earth in my live stock feed and in the stables/pens for pest and parasite control ...... so i tried 3 tablespoons dusted over the top of each container ....... the older flying devils died from old age and amazingly enough wernt replaced by any more youngins ...... not that this is some scientific shit or nothing but it worked for me ..... went from wrecked plant status to clean fly ribbons in my closet good luck with all your future grows ......

It works as a desiccant drying out the larva ..... its not a chemical thing just has microscopic cutting edges and it cuts the larva and they dry out and die i hope this helps ...... DE is sold at most feed stores and is around 8 bucks for a dry gallon

DE is approximately 3% magnesium,
86% silicon, 5% sodium, 2% iron and many other trace minerals such as titanium, boron,
manganese, copper and zirconium.

thats copy and paste from that link ....... sounds like DE will not only kill gnats but also is a shot of trace minerals

I've thought about trying this before because I get sick of the gnats. How bad is the dust? Thats the only negative I've heard is that the dust is hazardous to breathe and that the dust makes it kind of a pain to deal with. idk How dusty is it?
I also didn't know they used it around livestock either.

Used it on top of soil with mosquito donuts crushed into water when they were vegging. Took about 3 weeks to get rid of 99% of them. DE in my experience was safe - It's considered to be safe around the house...

Would you use it again? Say... on gnats? I just googled diatomaceous earth, yeah, looks pretty safe. I don't know where I heard the dust was somewhat of a hazard? Obviously no more than any other particulate matter. Hear the same things about perlite too, "the dust is hazardous" . Probably just a bunch of safety sallies around here.

I might have to give it a shot. I get fed up with the gnats. Little bastards!!

the stuff for pools wont work and it is alot nastier then food grade ..... any dust is hazardous in excess

i just sprinkle it on top and water it in havent noticed any dust ..... but my grow space has negative pressure so the carbon scrubber would take care of what does get kicked up....... dont think it would make it out of the grow area

I've seen some at the grow store, I'll have to give it a try some time. The Gnatrol I have doesn't seem to be working very well anymore?

normally spinosad is what i use but these arent the ones im used too ...... tiny like pin head size

I've recently discovered, the hard way, that my pest control game needs some attention. Grown for years without 'em, but this year I finally got spider mites. Right now I just spray the shit out the plants with safer soap-I think its mainly potassium hydroxide-but it only kills on contact basically, its not a "end all" type of insecticide. But I don't have to worry about any health affects from it though either. I'm kind of in the research phase when it comes to pest control.
