White paint on walls?

So here's my question... Flat white or semi- gloss white.

What's better for reflecting light?
Looking for best info...

Common sense says semi gloss but I see alot of ppl recommending flat white.
Probably won't make a huge difference just want it to be best it can be

Yea it won't make too much of a difference, white is white, best thing you can do is white and line it with mylar

That was my thought on semi gloss easier to clean but flat hides wall imperfections better in grow room who cares though just want best reflection

Thank you everyone for info I just got done painting flat white and I'm gonna cover with mylar gift wrap 4' X25' for 99 cents a roll at dollar store its only 1 mil but I figure for that price I'll double it. That's what I did on my last grow and worked fine I hung it from light and wrapped around plants on 3 sides with extra cfl's from the front.

Wow that was some great info I like how he explained why to use flat or satin instead of higher gloss. Makes much more sense. I'm in ohio so its not very convenient to order 5 gallons of paint online but from what I see this looks like a great product

^^^ He has some diarheaa of the mouth but hes not too bad.

I still like panda poly, I like to apply foliars so the panda poly IMHO is a better surface to work with.

Just a thought here, but what is your intent?.. If you want to disperse, a flat white will do the trick. if you want to reflect look at movie screen paint.

However I dont think that this is for the greenhouse environment.. I'm not sure how this will react to high humidity and if its a tough enough coating to be scrubbed and washed on. I haven't tested it other than to paint a wall in a buddies house that we were using for projection. Forza is amazing on a BIG screen.

Again, kinda why I like panda poly if I can use it, its slick.. cleans easy, and easy to decontaminate.

I never heard of it before but looked it up. Looks pretty good. I'm just growing a few plants for now when legalized here in ohio. If this ballot initiative this year passes we can only have 4 flowering plants anyway so flat white paint works fine for me. But knowledge is power so I'm always looking for more I appreciate all the info. The one thing I never thought about that I got out of the video was stuff bacteria or moisture building up between walls and mylar covering or whatever you use. So for now I think I'm gonna just go with flat white paint and hang the mylar around plants again like I did last time instead of putting right on walls in hoping to get a grow tent next month payday and have separate veg and flower grows going. But after rambling like this I never answered you. I was thinking about reflecting the light and flat I've learned now thanks to you works better with aa more even reflection than glossy thanks again. I checked outmonstergarden. Com too nice site they have everything good prices too at least compared to the one grow shop around here in northeast ohio. I couldn't find that paint on there tho was curious about price.

Flat white with extra titanium pigment is the best choice. I lined my room with 1" rigid insulation that is reflective on one side. It is easy to clean and adds some R value to the walls. It is also mold and bug resistant!

I'm a painter but I don't have to be to tell you that semi gloss is going to have more reflection than flat, what it comes down to is the creation of hot spots that your plants will stretch towards. Ideally you want all of your light to be coming from on top the canopy and the walls don't make much difference, flat white might brighten up the room but it's not gonna create the intensity of light sufficient for photosynthesis, neither would semi gloss or reflective material imo. So you might as well paint it flat white to brighten up the room and avoid creating hot spots.

Great link! BTW I use Panda Poly..

I tend to move location alot so I like the panda poly more than paint. I need a fast rig up time, and sometimes I'm working with irregular surfaces, or I have to cover a window so the panda fits my particular needs.

I'm sure flat white will be a good choice.. Just make sure it fits your needs. I can see where paint could be a superior choice over panda.. Especially if its a permanent install.

no, flat white reflects better. satin n semi look like they reflect better to our eyes, but they don't.
