How long does your super soil last?

seed to harvest? or does it die out towards the end of flowering? and is that what it's supposed to do? I've noticed defeciencies in plants that are close to their harvest day.

You want it to slowly fade and begin to yellow the fan leaves in the last 2 weeks, because there is no real way to flush supersoil. If it stays green all the way through use less supersoil next time. You want that "organic fade" man. Remember the used soil can be collected, re amended and used again. Good luck!

Your supersoil should not 'die out' before harvesting. Chances are you have something else going on. People like myself can use the same soil over and over without adding much of anything to it. I leave the flushing and fading talk for when I have to strike up a conversation with the clerk at the hydrostore. Have to keep my good dude discount!

so when I see there is no defeciency it doesn't effect all the smoke all the ammendments that are still in the soil
This is correct as long as you are not dumping bottled nutes on your soil, or doing something stupid like a friend I know and dumping a cup of time released fertilizer per 5 gallon pot 20 days before harvest (neither of which I think flushing helps).

This is a blood orange that is going to get chopped in the next couple of days (sorry for the crappy pict, lights out and all). It will smoke clean as can be.

As long as your aeration components are not degradable and you constantly add more compost you can keep a pot going for a long time. I have 4 35 gal pots going on a year and 2 harvests. And they are growing plants as we speak on the third round.

I gave the super soil a try last year. My issues were burning in veg and early flower then early fading. The early fading could have been caused by too much of one thing locking out another. I had the same issues for two grows in that soil with the third grow falling on its face very early. If you read up on amendments you will see that some last a few months or less and some can last for years.

I have since re-amended the same soil with better stuff and am on my third plant in the same soil. So far the fade starts around day 35 using clear water only.

Here is a shot of my room from yesterday. The platinum bubba on the right that is fading is 41 days into flower. The plant in the center that has started fading is also a platinum bubba and is at day 38. The holy grails, Xj13 and my cross (still need to name it) are just getting going.

Exactly and this leads me to ask what size containers? The entire purpose of super soil is to feed the plant naturally and for as long as it needs it. Hence the name?

I had problems my first run. wasnt that my soil was dieing out but hadnt broken down enough to make all my CaMG avail. at least thats what i deducted. Run two has Zero fading or whatever you call it. Ill post a pic of some Crzy shit. my first try at breeding. either way i put this bad girl into a 3 gallon pots to wuick flower and see what she has to offer. now shes 4 1/2 feet tall. 18 inch colas. looks like a monster in such a small pot. But my phone has been killed and have no other way of posting pics atm.

Lol lok at the size of that pot this beast is in!

Ok here are some others around 7-8 weeks. zero fade. may have lost 1 or 2 leaves throughout UNTIRE lifecycle. i dont trim, or defoliate or lolopop at all either.

lol no. still thinking like a bottled nutrient grower. ive heard rumors that useing to much molasses in teas can affect harshness near the end. but ive never noticed a difference. and ive chopped plants that got a rich AACT just days before harvest.

I top dress with ss about 4 or 5 weeks into flower and feed one or 2 times in week 6 or 7 on a 10 week strain. I get approx 8 weeks of food out of ss, here's a pic of how I like the fade to look when I harvest. View attachment 3507770
maybe i missed something but top dress with SS. what exactly is underneith your topdress than? I thought the whole purpose of super soil, or maybe i have my terms mixed up, was to be in a symbiotic relationship with the microbial life, rhizosphere and plant in general. i dont see how topdressing would really be super benficial. just from your pic it looks like something is off. the claw and necrosis on leaves would cause me great worries. looks like good smoke, but something is off here. just my opinion, sorry if it wasnt wanted. lol

Imo the issue with supersoils is they put a laundry list of uncomposted amendments in a small amount of soil with little to no understanding of what each amendment is or is not doing. If you're jacking up soil with that many amendments, it should be good for a very long time providing things are somewhat balanced. To answer the size question, for my style of growing, 10-15 is too small, 100's are awesome, but they are big, 25-35 seems like a good inbetween size.

Peace!

I think the soil just needs time to break down and get settled. I have not added any liming agents/calmag since the initial mixing. If plants start to develop deficiencies I would give them a good act. For pots that small, I'd say you're doing an excellent job keeping them happy! ;)

Hey pattahabi! have you ever heard of or tried mutiple plants in a large bed. 3-4 C/f. i want to try a new room, with a single large raised bed style container. and i want to plant 12 plants into this bed? trying to get into notill more and more. ive been playing with some 15 gallon pots with great results. so i figure 300+gallons of soil should be enough for a dozen small clones. vegging 2-3 weeks. any input, or if its a crazy stupid idea please let me know lol

I think it's a great idea! I'm currently using 100 gallon pots and growing 4 plants per, and I like it a whole lot. One thing I have noticed is veg time is dramatically reduced when vegging in containers that large. I grow them in a 1 gallon pot, and then transplant into 100 gallons. You might run into space issues if you are putting 12 plants in say a 50" diameter smartpot. Meaning the might get squished together (they might not depending how small you flip them).

Peace!
