Think ive been led astray

in that video they are only measuring the center point. look at how high (around 3 feet) they are actually hanging to get a sufficient spread over the whole canopy.
I agree with that, but what about that center # vs what has been posted in the "test" here in this forum?

What if instead of using the lenses they supply with cobs, which I think are made of some kind of plastic, you mounted a quality glass lens on it, like a camera lens of some sort or even just a good magnifying glass? I guess a magnifying glass would concentrate the light into a point a short distance under the cob before then spreading it back out. Probably a camera lens would work better.

do you even know what model they are testing ? numbers are not that far off, but really not comparable because of the ad hoc way of measuring, especially in the case of spectrumking.

I am just a by stander in all of this trying to build a knowledge base of which techs and lights on the market are legit and worth taking a look at.

Are you calling bullshit on the par #'s shown in this video?

Nope, not at all. All the readings in the video are pretty much inline with what I've experience personally, using the same meter.

I see the discrepancy is the reflector angle. First in vid is 60°. Second is 90° like you were testing
So what's the consensus, 3 to replace a 1000 watter?

Putting aside warehouse grows with multiple HPS all contributing via side lighting to the canopy, and just focusing on a single or two 1000w single ended HPS, would you guys say 2lbs per light is : standard/average or considered an exceptional or impressive yield?

Lots of growers are easily pulling a pound from a single SK, so 2lbs from 2 lights without breaking a sweat seems pretty good for only 880w dissipation.

I haven't thought of that. Maybe go to a surplus store and buy a shitty rifle scope and take the ocular and objective lense out. It would have a sodium fluoride coating likely.

Sk has defeat device. It can detect a par sensor and increase light output during PAR testing.bongsmilie

About lens and reflectors.
I actually think lens work in a way that they will always have high numbers in a plot. It has to do with how it refracts the light. Will post some pics in my ppf thread tomorrow.

This time the sensor was pointed straight up. I did the same measurement distances that the Grower's House review took and an additional test at 22" for curiosity's sake. I used a level and (x4) adjustable ratchet hangers to try and get the light as plum and level as I possibly could.

Compared to this light which uses more than double the wattage...

IMG_1656.JPG

AVERAGE PPF
@ 36" - 364.39
@ 30" - 455.81
@ 24" - 590.15

Seems the Spectrum King (@ 30") can almost perform as well as a traditional 1000w fixture @ 36" with an exceedingly better spectrum and 40-45% of the energy. Is it a direct 1000w HPS replacement? IMO no. But the performance it puts out for the money it costs, especially compared to other commercial LED fixtures on the market, I can honestly say this would be a great buy for anybody who is not up to the DIY task (120 Degree Reflector would be ideal for tents or low ceiling spaces). Or a perspective dispensary that is setting up a very large scale grow. Efficiency starts becoming a real topic of interest the larger the grow is. Keep in mind these lights are approved for Commercial use.

This thread is such a waste of time. You know old stoners use to steal LPS street lights to grow weed, why don't we get some of them.
People are raving about the LEC 315's and that is 40+ year old technology that has been refined into something "brand new and totally changing the game!" The SK wipes the floor with the LEC and it comes in a box with a warranty. I know its not DIY, but what is your deal with their product? If you were a consumer looking to buy a light to save on cooling and energy, why wouldn't this product be a viable option?

I don't know his criticism, but mine is that the spread is sub-par and so is penetration...especially for how much it costs. Seems to be good for about a 2.5x2.5 spot at the most.

Ignore the outer measurements they where recorded in a 5x5 area. So it's center 1x1 2x2 3x3 5x5 not the best test by growers house but shows how super de duper the sk is to a cheap ass bulb 400 hps in a reflector that concentrates the light just like sk.

Ok I concede. I'm going to lie to everyone if they ask should they buy an sk. It's a light for a gym end of story. Never going to be a purpose built grow light. It completely misses 1/2 the advantage of using led. SPREAD.

See above post lol. My light uses the same amount of electricity. Compare those charts and get back with me. Pacific light concepts uses over 100 watts less than the sk. And it costs 500+ less. I have a budget non air cooled led that will pull 450 watts and will beat the sk all day and is 200 bucks cheaper.

Let me know when I can buy your product from a store, and hang it in a commercial grow legally... If you want to compare apples to apples. Then we'll talk.

Maybe this light isn't for the at home hobbyist. I would be interested to see the results with a 120 degree reflector on the unit.

So what other commercial LED fixtures put out a better footprint for a similar/ cheaper price? That I can go buy this weekend or at least order it and have it next week? That is UL and ETL listed and approved for commercial use?
I'm pretty curious.

I don't disagree that the light isn't revolutionary by any means. But if you were going to buy a comparable LED fixture, what would you buy?
