What the molly, the CXB3070 is better than the more expensive CXB3590? At least at lower currents, is that correct, can I rely entirely on these calculations?

No the CXB3590 is better than the CXB3070. It's when you use the CXA version the 3070 is more efficient.

I can understand why youd be annoyed, but I really am trying to get this. Thats why Im asking, since Id rather be stupid for a few minutes, than remain quiet and stay stupid forever. I can see the lumens are higher at different currents on the CXB3590, but on the other hand, the lm/w at 50C seems to be numbered higher on the CXB3070 from your datasheet on page 8. Perhaps Im reading it wrong, which shouldnt surprise me much. Thanks for taking the time to enlighten me!

There are 2 versions of the 3590...a 36v and a 72v. The 36v is for all intents and purposes the same operating characteristics as the 3070(a 36v cob as well). The 72v version is the same chips, but the on board wiring(parallel and series) are a little different. To get to 50w with a 72v version, only 700ma is needed(72v x .7a=~50w). As where with the 3070 or 36v 3590, 1400ma will get you there(36v x 1.4a=~50w).I can understand why youd be annoyed, but I really am trying to get this. So for back on page 8...your looking at the 72v3590 not the 36v so the ma comparisons won't be the same. But watt to watt, the 3590 has the flag.
Thanks for helping out, Greengenes. But is it then because we are comparing a low bin CXB3590 with the highest bins of the CXB3070? As far as I can see, looking at it the way you propose, since Im going to build a lamp at either 0,7Amps or 1,4Amps depending on the voltage being 36v or 72v, they seem to have almost the exact same efficiency and L/W. The difference seems to be 2,56% in total lumen output when powered to ~50w. Is that really worth the price difference, or am I simply making a stupid light?

That's about it. Just the bump in efficiency and thus output. But like your getting, it may not be worth the price for some. 3070's are awesome. If someone thinks a 3590 is going to be a total game changer compared to the 3070...their just justifying their purchase to themselves or never used either before. All depends on pricing and availability for you. But either choice will grow top tier herb and as much as the other 9/10 times.

I agree 3590 is for those who are looking to squeeze every last ounce of efficiency out. Two lights with same bin 3070 and 3590 driven at same wattage would be so close that all the other variables in the grow would over shadow any diffrence in light output.

for a $10 difference 3070 seems like a investment than 3590. Almost same efficiency.

Just finalized my order with Kingbrite. The MW HLG-185-C1400A were out of stock and not to return anytime soon so Jerry gave me the option for the HLG-185-C1400B, no wired external dimming. Jerry was quick to give me a heads up and options. I appreciate his service and am looking forward to getting this light built and rolling...

Im so glad that Ive been busting so many balls before ordering! It looks like Im ready to go for it. Unfortunately Jerry hasnt answered any of my mails for two days, I think he got tired of all my questioning despite my polite inquiries. hehe. Thank you guys. Id rather do 8 of these 3070 at a lower voltage, than six 3590 at 1.4. So thats great news Thanks a lot everybody, Ill probably be all over the place once I get my stuff and have to do the wiring
