Organic Growers: Breed or Cloning?

do you breed or keep mothers? Probably both I assume...

I just can Not get a Clone for the life of me! So I was thinking of just sticking to Breeding Seeds and doing it the Old fashion way... Not to say they did not graft and make cuttings back in ye day because they have for hundreds of years.

But I just want to know what you all think? I'm thinking of strict breeding and No clones.

I prefer clones due to them being known females and mature, allowing no room wasted harboring and wasting nutes on unknown males. But I do breed then pop beans to find a good mother plant, but yes I'm strictly clones.

No yeah that's what o was kind of thinking but also if I flower the males I can harvest the pollen and save it from elite makes to breeding others

Yep they both have their trade offs I actually have a separate tent where I grow males for breeding and you just have to do it every now and again because you can save the pollen. If you come across a great female phenotype cross it with your best male pollen, who knows you may run into something worth keeping.

Nice yeah I wish I had the room I'm just limited to one room though two tents

if you don't mind, could you explain your aero cloning process? i just had someone that had a bad time cloning every which way try how i do things with 100% success, and if you already have the stuff to do it you could try next time you get some seeds going. i find the aerocloning is pretty foolproof...

Anybody can make a quick bubble cloner, successfully root cuttings and there is zero trick to it other than be somewhat sterile. Anybody.
Maybe that's my problem sterility!

Umm basically I even pHd to 5.9... But just tap water, temps are 75-90 one 23w CFL and I use rooting gel with water in a cup the first day then to cloner. Cut at 45 degrees and scrape

Good thread, If i could assure myself and my patients that everything i sourced was STERILE, and held to the same standards i utilize them sure clone's, but sadly most ive experianced arent in this for the passion of love of the plant. I would suggest finding a decent stock to work with and making your own, pollen chuckers are the ONLY reason i still go online for this thing of ours.

no need to Ph the water unless you're adding something to it once they start to show roots. 90 degrees definitely way too warm. shouldn't go over like 78 or something like that and more towards 70 is ideal i believe. One thing i like to do is put a small fan on the ground and point it at the 5 gallon bucket i use for my cloner, it helps keep the water temp down (i don't blow the air at the clones though, just towards the bucket itself). I also cut the leaf tips off to help slow transpiration as well. are you cutting your 45 after you do your root gel soak? it was just the way you listen the process above, and had that at the end of your procedure. I would cut the 45, scrape if you wish but not necessary, and then soak in the gel water for 24 hrs and pop in the cloner. should be done after that!

tips: keep your cloner as full as you can with water. the more water you have in it, the cooler it will stay and if it gets too warm, throw a couple ice cubes in it! soak those cuts for 24 hrs in the gel water before putting in the cloner; i use about 5-7 drops of gel per 1 cup of water when soaking. trim back the leaves just a little to slow transpiration. if you do this, i don't see how you can't have 100% success! Oh and, if you need to clean your cloner, run hydrogen peroxide in it for about 24 hours 1:1 with regular water.

I soak my botanicare 25 site cloner in a little bleach water for a day. Then I run it for an hour. I use tap water with no ph adjustments and GH rapid start. I also use some cheap cloning powder to dip clones in after cut. Also use a very low wattage cfl. I think mine is 23 or 15 watts. I change out a 20oz frozen water bottle everyday to keep it cool. I actually started getting better results once I stopped over complicating things and using a low wattage for the light.

Nice thanks I like the 20oz bottle ice pack idea!

Thanks I'm definitely going to run some cleaning soultion through it!

I would just like to say I have always got at least one clone by taking a cut, soaking in tap water for half a day, pulling it out of the water to put aloe on it then back in the water. It helps to change the water every other day but everyday is a little too much. I get at least one clone in 2 weeks. Takes a while but it always works.

dude I told you the method to have almost 100% success on your clones.
Back when you started a thread about it.
I know and I tried it and I Still fail! Haha you were are the one that sticks in the bank of my mind about how you have your temps high and still get clones.

yeah, but according to you, you didn't though man, if you used any gels and ph'ed tap water, that's NOT the advice I gave you brother.
Distilled water, clean everything, even in 100+ temps I was getting 95% success.
My WATER wasn't 100 degrees, just the weather, but I don't have an AC, soooo
In my experience with a bubble cloner, it's crucial to have distiiled water, no rooting anything, and a clean bubbler
in about 12 days I have roots, as early as 6 days for some varieties, like the bluedream and the madberry
