I'm Spending All My Money

To finish my rooms that I have been building.. I need to complete the ventilation so I'm going to order 50 feet of 8in. flexible duct hosing, and two of these fans http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G6XSGU for a combined total of $140.

I have two 4x4x6 rooms and I want to have one fan pull hot air from both rooms and into a carbon filter (budget $100) and simply have the cleaned air released into my basement. I want to take the other fan and pull air from my fresh air source and split into both rooms for fresh air flow. I figure this way it would help provide my basement with some added air-flow. Do you feel the fans would be enough to pull and push the air I want? Could I save money and get a smaller fan? Could you recommend a carbon filter for me?

Also, what kind of fluorescent fixtures should I be looking at for my veg room? The actual fixture itself does not matter, right? Simply the bulbs? I would be fine starting a couple plants under a 2 bulb 4' T5 fixture and adding another 2 bulb fixture later? I already have an led fixture that I want to use for my flowering room.

I plan on ordering this stuff off amazon and other misc websites within 15 hours so hopefully I'll get some input and feedback.. unlike the other 10 times I have posted. -_-

The board is pretty active but it's also based on time zones
While its 10pm for me it's 1-3am for most of the active users

So please be mindful of that when being upset about no one responding

Yea, you need a t5 fixture to house t5 bulbs. t5's won't fit into a t8 fixture.... four 4ft t5's would make for a nice veg setup. 5000-6500k. Make sure they fit inside your tent though. Space could get tight if your space is 4ft and the lights are 4ft.

How many watts is your LED? It would take one monster LED to flower that space correctly. Also if it's 5w diodes then 6ft may not be enough space so be careful.. Need to LST the plants.

I am a newbie just finishing up my first grow, so keep that in mind as you read. I have 2 4x4x6.5 tents. I originally bought a 6" duct fan like the ones you are looking at. If you are pushing/pulling air for any length, or through a filter, then I think you will be grossly underpowered.

I use the duct fan I bought in my veg, that is just hung in a upper vent hole, no ducting, just exhausts into my basement, and the tent has a passive intake. For that, it works well, and creates enough neg pressure. My flower tent uses about 5' of ducting, no filter, and exhausts outside... I tried 220cfm duct fan on that, and ordered a 535cfm inline about 5 minutes later.

You might be able to get away with it.. But I think you will quickly wish you had invested a bit more for the right product. Good luck to you!!

You might be a newbie but your learning quick. ;)

Haha.. Thanks dude. Hundreds, and hundreds of hours of reading since March.. And I'm not sure if I've even really scratched the surface!
It takes a lot of grows to get good at this. Reading is one thing but testing out the theories is where you actually figure stuff out. Lolly poping, flushing, feeding rates and calcium or magnesium deficiencies. Youll figure out how you should be doing all that stuff, or not doing, with practice. But reading sure helps the process.

I couldn't agree with that more... I have definitely been learning by trial and error.. With plenty of error. One hell of a fun hobby!

Buy once, buy the best, dont cut corners on your equipment. The two room inline youll run should be wayyy over powered and not under.
To be perfectly frank, if your on a "budget" your probably screwed..youll see. Dont scrimp on equipment because thats what powers the plants and if you budget it, youll budget your production. Good luck.
Listen to what this person is telling you. Confucius said a wise man learned from mistakes, preferably those made by others.

Buy a real (better fan) with higher cfms than you think you'll need. Also, I have vegged for over a year under a 4' 6 bulb T8 and love it. Bulbs are cheaper than T5 and almost the same performance. Buy a fixture you wire yourself with the power cord and you'll save money. Not sure where you live, but flea markets, CL and the like can net you some pretty good deals. You can always upgrade, but if you sell the equipment you started off with you will typically lose half. You are better off to start small and with the proper equipment, then upgrade.

You bet! I make everything myself! Used building materials are available in nearly any city. Grow lights? Search craigslist for "used high bay shop lights". Almost invariably 400-watt self-contained ballast/reflector that's heavier than your tool box. But separate the ballast and wire it to the socket with 10/3 copper and hang it up. They usually come with a used bulb either MH or HPS. Never paid more than $50 for one. Stuck that hot ass ballast out on the deck too.

Used commercial exhaust fans usually are cheap.Ceiling-mounted with heavy duty fan motors.Just check that it operates before leaving the yard. Usually much quieter than little fans for grows.

Never occured to me but thats a great idea haveing the ballast out side your grow space just wire the bitch in from ouside, going to See my buddy he's a GC on a construction site and p/u 25' 12/3 romex cable right now. I'm running a 2' 4 bulb t5 in a small ass closet and temps have been a bitch to control, I was using CFLs but plants needed more light I found one t5 used for $30 and the shipping was free. Probably a grower who just upgraded cause this was his first sale, I was a bit leery buying it but what the hell I took a chance and got a bargain.

Thanks for the idea, cruising all the posts and...bingo! Good luck with your grow!

You have no idea the coin you are about to spend. Pots, light hangers, ducting, Sharpies, extension cords, power strips, timers, controllers, etc, etc, etc. You're right about one thing, you haven't even scratched the surface. It's a lot of work to do this well and a huge commitment, but it's also a lot of fun and can be very rewarding.

My opinion, do not buy that fan.

When I first started my "partner" bought this exact fan in hopes of ventilating my 4x8 tent and failed miserably.

You're trying to cool 2x 4x4x6 rooms? Not going to happen with this fan.

After reading all of the responses I decided that I have to rethink how I am going to reconfigure and set up my rooms and ventilation to reduce the price. I have already put hundreds into this and I'm down to my last $350. I am not worried about flower pots, light hangers, extension cords, or anything of the sort.. I have a couple of items that I need to get within my budget.

I need lighting for my veg room.. I am open to ideas, but I wanted to start with 1x 4' T5 fixture with two lamps and add another later when money is there (couple of weeks). However, I am struggling to find places to purchase what I need for a decent price. I am also open to using a 250-300w CFL bulb giving that it would supply enough light for my area instead of the T5's.

If anyone could help me with my online shopping list by posting some urls that would be fantastic.. people are quick to say "don't get that" or "it won't be enough", but never give any recommendations or solutions to the problem. I need an entire ventilation system for two 4'x4'x6.5' rooms, including a carbon filter to help with smell, and lights for my veg room to complete "most" of my setup and I need it all to happen for $350. My basement is pretty humid during the summer, but the RH dropped down to 50% today from 90% in the summer months.. so using the basement air should not be an issue as long as there is an air-filter on the intake, lol.

I have put hundreds into this project so far and have put off the entire thing for a month exactly because I don't know what to order. I could use help. I google all day, but there are so many people that are full of crap.. I could spend years sifting for the information and make the choices myself.. or a helpful person with some wisdom and experience could help me in a couple of minutes.

On a budget? I'd be leaving the inlet passive, just suck air from all directions, and use a T5 but again tight money yeah!!! use the T8, the 4-6 tube rack(diy) is best
