240v to 120v Question for Gavita Owners

Better spectrum, more efficient, less heat. I'd say that the CMH produces more watt for watt than the HPS for sure. The light is a nicer color to work under, and doesn't strain my eyes the way that HPS does.

@ttystikk
@GroErr
@TheChemist77
@mc130p
@borbor
I think I spelled everyone's names right and I'm pretty sure they all use the CMH as well. I haven't heard any complaints :-)

Next year my big room will be nearly all CMH, I'll only use HPS strictly for the heat in the wintertime.
OK, last question. What ballast/reflector would you recommend running with it? Growing in a tent in a 4x4 space, just 4 plants (keeping it legal here in OR, lol). Appreciate the help!

Give me a bit and I'll link you to one.

I'm currently vegging with the CMH in a 4x4 using a batwing reflector, but ideally the reflector holds the bulb in a vertical orientation.

Heat isn't really an issue with the CMH. At all. I can touch the bulb with a finger tip and not burn.

This one?

Will probably invest in a second for summer and ditch the 400 hps as a backup. Thanks man.

that will work. the sunsystems lec comes with an AWESOME reflector and also it has the step up/down transformer built in. @borbor uses that same one, @GroErr uses that too and he kills it with them. look up his thread, its called "GroErr Grows"

if you want to just buy the bare essential and find your own reflector then you can go to advancedtechlighting.com and purchase a kit for about $200 that comes with the philips 315w ballast and a bulb with a mogul base.

i haven't used the CMH in 3k spectrum. my CMH are all in the 4k spectrum, i have used them for veg and for flower.

i hope i helped man, i know it can be a lot of info all at once.

also, regarding the gavita cord and plug, i believe you can just order the cord itself from ebay or whatever. as long as your gavita can handle the 110v and 220v then you should be fine. i was impatient and didn't want to wait for the shipping so i just snipped mine and replaced it with the standard plug.

You are awesome, snap bought the sunsystems based on what I was hearing, including a bit of research from the google machine. There goes my bank account, oh well tomorrow is payday. Ha! The gavita would be a powerwhore during the summer, given that I would be forced to run a standalone A/C unit 24/7 in the summers here in Central Oregon, and how hot they run. Temps frequently get to 85 here in the apartment around 5pm without running my 400 watt medium adjustawing. Definitely returning it. But I'll probably add the 400 watt HPS in during the final month of flower as a "supplement" during the winter at least.

I'm having a similar issue in Michigan. These gavitas are too hot and I have a dedicated AC just for the tent they're in. Don't get me wrong, they're amazing lights, but they definitely produce heat. They'll be great for the winter though!

The CMH will do you good. I'm jealous. I've wanted the sunsystems LEC for a while!

Maybe one of the people I tagged earlier will provide some input.

Check out that thread I told you about

you're gonna love it! the thread in my sig uses it!
I checked out your grow and will be stoked if I can achieve ballpark similar results, especially given that the yields of my first grow were lame (48g). Cheers and congratulations on a very successful grow! Perhaps I should have gone with the 4200k bulbs but I'm vegging with a 400w HPS this round and will invest in that spectrum next time.

thanks dude! I'm sure you will, so far in my opinion all I did was read enough, spend enough, and got lucky with a few phenotypes!
