But those men were only on their property. they weren't trying to gain entry to the home. if they were trying to break into their house i absolutely agree they should be shot, but the article says they chased the men off their property and shot them on the roadway. once they are off your property it no longer constitutes as trespassing.

even on your property, you'll have to prove they were a threat. laws have somewhat diff interpretations from state to state. never shoot anyone in the back. things are crazy in the heat of battle, and you better believe (assume) you may be fighting for your life in addition to "just-plants". being polite to an intruder or thief wld be my last choice. whatever happens, you don't want to be a casualty of the legal system. if an intruder/thief loses their life or limbs in the process, so be it.

I agree. If the men were running, they were probably not armed and could of been chased and possibly captured.

If your dog messes someone up on your property you might get a fine and have to put down the dog.

Fence in your plants and place a dog run outside that fence. Have some permanent outdoor dogs. Nice shelter with a heated floor for them would be inexpensive vs a lost harvest.

Straw is really good for insulating dog houses too.

Often people act in the heat of the moment. As most people don't know the law, shooting a person in the back who is fleeing even if they commit a crime is murder. If they present no clear threatto you or anyone else when you use deadly force you are not acting in self defense.
