250w ballast dimmer

Just a stab in the dark, I know you guys will know though. I have a 250w ballast with hps bulb. Was just curious about using a heavy duty light dimmer with it from the plug. Is it safe to use would it even work ?

The reason I'm asking is because my inline extractor fan as of now is on almost full blast to keep my temp down to 26 degrees and I know when I put my filter on it'll be loud so will need to slow the fan down. So then I need to dim my light a little to compensate the extraction.

Don't do it:
1) it might be hazardous
2) it's not going to work
Don't try it with the plug in fan dimmer either because all that does is limit the frequency of your current.
You need to install a new ballast and bulb (150 watters are not too hot and they do the job quite alrite)
