Hey guys, happy Saturday. So I am the proud new momma of 18 little girls. Brought them home on Thursday from Dark Heart Nursery... 9 Purple Cadillac, (blackberry kush x purple urkle) and 9 romulan...

I transplanted them into Solo cups, with 5 holes poked in the bottom, into FFOF, also am using Killer Whale root builder mychorrhizae. They're under a T5 with 2 bulbs....

Hm what else. I don't know I'm just kinda stressing cause they look a little weird. I was planning on keeping them in the solo cups for a bought a week then transplanting them to their 5 gallon pots under 2, 1000w lights.

Should I prune the damaged leaves off? Also when is an appropriate time to top your plants the first time?

Thanks

My advice is to leave them alone for a few days, dont keep watering them. And you transplanted them into cups? Why not something larger too avoid more transplants

Also 34% humidity, get that up to the 50's dude

I transplanted them into solo cups cause I thought the 5 gallons seemed too big. After transplanting all of them I realized how big they actually were and sort of regret it now... But what can ya do.

I'm gonna go pick up a humidifier, its been really cold and dry here.

My boyfriend is trying to transplant them again tomorrow into the 5 gallon pots but I'm really worried they've already been stressed... I've also told him multiple times we need a humidifier and he's fighting me. At this point I guess he's just gunna do whatever he wants....

Don't water when transplanting! Soil should be moist but not wet. You need air flow for roots to grow. First 3-4 days mist soil to keep moist and most plants also this helps roots grow. Also ffof is sometimes a lil much for transplants i like ff happy frog for clones with no nutes! Do not use nutes with your ffof at this point!
Also when "potting up" use the rule of 3x...don't go from 12oz to 5 gal... try 1.25 to 5.

Just mist them you'll be fine! If you go to big to fast you'll end up with a weak or shallow root system!

I wouldnt prune anything off of them yet. Personally i would wait until they adjust to their new homes and after you transplant them. If you just brought them home i would wait five days to a week until you transplant. I dont know what style of garden you plan on running but if you have 2 1k lights id assume six plants a light. I would shoot for two transplants. One to five gallon pots and then up to seven gallon pots. Anything larger and youll have problems getting any run off while your watering.
If you are a new grower the most common error is over watering. Over watering is hard when in solo cups. The amount of dirt in the cups is so small that it wont hold water for very long. Even though, you need to stay on top of the cups and make sure they feel light in your hand before you water again. Just like when you repot into a five gallon, make sure theyre light in your hand before watering again.
The other new grower mistake is over feeding. If you dont have a ppm meter yet get one. Its the most important tool a grower has. Without it you will be lost. Theres two types of grow mediums that are popular that you can use, potting soil, or a soiless medium like coco fiber or peat. Coco and peat need to be fed at every watering based on the size of the plant. You start with very low ppms and raise it as you grow them larger. Soil on the other hand can just about make it without feeding, but you still want to be feeding it. For the first two weeks after transplanting you wont have to feed though. Then use low doses and make sure you arent feeding at every watering or youll burn them with nutrients.
Other than that just try to leave them alone and get the room dialed in. That means get the airflow up. Temps down to where they need to be, and humidity under control. That means fans and a carbon filter, an a/c unit, and most likely a dehumidifier. The climate you give them is a big part of growing. Too hot is terrible for plants.
The other big thing is dont be a slob. Clean regularly. Theres a lot of people who use marijuana as medicine so please treat what your doing as making medicine and keep it sanitary by staying on top of cleaning by not becoming lazy.
Good luck.

sorry but i dont like any of this info. Its fine to go from cups to five gallons, i do it every time and have for years. Also once theyre transplanted water them in well. It will take about three to four days for them to dry out for the next watering but a good soak will help to get all the new grow medium settled in properly, so theres no holes or veins that water will just channel through.
Also misting doesnt help roots grow, a dry/wet cycle helps roots grow because when they get to the dry part of the cycle the plant pushes roots farther into the medium to try and find water.

Tell your boyfriend that he should wait a week to transplant because if you do it too early the soil theyre in may fall apart. The longer you wait, the more roots will be holding everything together in there. An easy way to check is to wait until the root zone is dry and lightly squeeze and roll the cup. Then push up on the bottom and pull the plant out like your gently picking a carrot. You will be able to see the roots. If there's lots and its holding together then its time to transplant. If the medium is falling apart its too early. If your scared to try this then your better off waiting a bit longer. You cant fuck it up by waiting an extra couple days but you can fuck it up by doing it too early.

I don't mean to offend you but. I used to work in the nursery where soil pot sizes and nutrients are always used to their maximum efficiency... the 3X potting scheme is not something I made up but an industry standard.
As far as foliar feeding, I can never express importance of this and I get into a lot of arguments with people growing but rather than argue you can read for yourself reasons why you should especially in organic growing:

No offence taken. I advise new growers to go to fives and then sevens under 1ks because you can finish in a five gallon pot. That way if you run out of money (and most do) by the end of the first grow you wont be finishing in a three gallon pot and have a terrible harvest.
As for working in a nursery, marijuana isnt a tree and you want it to grow wide and not tall in most instances. Once marijuana gets root bound or the roots start hitting the sides it starts to grow taller instead of wider. And since you want tighter internodes a short wide plant usually works best. On the other hand if you want to grow sog, smaller pots will grow taller plants if thats what you want. Thats why youll see lots of ebb n flow guys using tiny net pots that look impossibly small with a million plants, cause they dont want them to spread wide, just grow up.
And i dont know what the comment on foliar feeding was about? You said spray the soil, but yes, foliar feedimg in veg can grow some vigorous plants, thats a fact.

Please show me literature on small pot size resulting in a taller plant! Maybe a spindly plant but not taller. Also nurseries grow a wide variety plants not only trees.;)
I'm glad to hear that going straight to a 5 gal works for you but I've done it as well and know it creates a inferior patchy root system as well as a longer shock period. Don't knock it till you have tested it for yourself.

Just google, lanky marijuana plant, and then go to images. Youll see for yourself. Or grow a plant in a solo cup and watch it get lanky and grow straight up instead of out. I dont really preach what ive read in books or in botany classes, i preach what ive learned through practice.
If myself or others dont transplant early enough, then the plants get tall and lanky, instead of wide and bushy. If you top the plant and train it you can fight it, and using soiless medium and feeding more often (like six times a day) can also make it possible if you remember that a root bound plant is much more prone to nutrient burn, so feeding at lower ppms is a better idea.
If you still dont believe me thats your prerogative, but i know its true when it comes to cannabis. Small containers grow taller plants.

Okay... So after observing them today and weighing some of the options ... I've just been misting in the room every few hours to bring the humidity up from 35% to about 50ish. They seem to be perking up a little .... I think we are going to wait 3-4 days depending on how the roots look to transplant them into 5 gallon pots. I forget who asked me but I am doing 18 in 5 gallon pots under 2 1000w lights.

Can you put the solo cups under a 1000w light? Or will it dry them out too much?

Ya no prob on the solo cups under 1ks. The only problem is they have to be about five feet away.
Im guessing you have magnetic ballasts or youd just dim down digital ones.
I love the idea of more plants in five gallon pots, but most guys will run a number that makes even plants per light. You have 9 and 9 per light. Itll work but you know what im sayin right? 16 would have given you 8 and 8 and that sounds like a more doable number with the setup your running. If you went to 20 you would have plants falling out of the lights footprint.
If i were you id relax on spraying the room down. Dont worry so much about humidity, worry more about what medium your using paired with the ppms youll be running. Figure that out before they grow and youll be golden.

I do not have dimmable ballasts that's why I'm asking about moving them to the other light. I don't wanna fry them...

You wont fry them if theyre high enough up. Light power decreases the farther away from the light you get.

The best advice so far is to let them adjust for a week, don't rush them. Sure you can transplant early or late, but right on time is the best time (lol).
