2 x Gavita 1000 DE vs 4 x Kind LED K5 750

Hello RIU.

I come to the advanced sections to get a legit answer.

I will be running a flowering room of 8 x 8.

Been wondering on these 2 situations.

Will be running 24 3.5 gallon ebb and flow.

Would 2 x 1000 Gavita DE work in an 8 x 8 space with good PAR?

Or I would be interested in 4 Kind K5 750 LED.

LED is more expensive but seems like my best bet.

Living in Canada it gets cold so Gavita may be better due to harsh winters.

Any serious help appriciated.

imo, i would go with the 2 x 1k gavitas.

o yea, don't get caught up on the whole "this setup has more PAR-- which equals bigger/better buds sales-pitch" ,its all about PUR (photosynthetically usable radiation)..

Gavitas any day of the week. 4 750s would be drawing like 2600 watts of power? You could do 4 seperate 4x4s with the kinds and have no room to walk or do a 5x8 canopy with the gavitas and have comfortable working space, save 400w of power and probably yield more, 2+ #s per light seems to be easily achievable with gavitas. assuming you have the headspace to work with the gavitas that's what I would do. Also would be cheaper! I would own 6 of them if I had higher ceilings.

I would use gavita 6/750's for any ceiling to floor height of 7 to 6 feet. With the right varieties and canopy management surpassing the yields of single ended 1000 watt hps lamps are very acheivable. Only drawback is the heat build up with multiple lamps. They get very hot. And they need air conditioning. Preferably in the mini split design and with carbon dioxide gas supplemented the yields are really nice.

Gavita's my choice. I hear they have a new version. mines the first 600-1150w model with attached ballest. no complaints.

The only LED's i believe live up to.hype are those Spyder whatever dealys. And they are like 2500-3000$ !!!!!! LED'S have a purpose but for the bigger showz its still a no go. Thier catching up though. The technology is moving faster than anything in the industry rite now. Pretty soon LED'S will be it for sure. Regardless of marketing bullshit they just dont cut it quite yet. I have friends that have them. Ive used them. Sold them. Expensive. Especially the good ones. I would pass and stick to double and single ended HPS lamps to crank out some production. And just deal with the heat. Many ways to do that.

Agree on the Gavita over KIND any day of the week, recommendation...No way in hell agree on PUR, little green light usage? lol.....Plants uptake green light emitted from the sun as seen in RQE diagrams, so......

Kind is absolute garbage for the pricing. Might as well buy Mars. The only diodes to run in the LED world are the Cree CXB series [3070, 3590] or the Bridgelux Vero's.....others too...

It can be built safely, easily, with minimal tools, and / or......it can cost you a bit from some of the pre built fixtures that do actually offer these diodes, [Hint: not Kind] and some of the 600 watt versions may give those 1k Gavita's a run for their money....

The heat is nice from the HPS so as not to run a 2nd heater, but LED's still emit heat and could be controlled discharge aka slow your exhaust too...

(3) 1k de gavita pro's will cover a 8ft wide 6 ft deep area nicely.. Yeah? and also and 8x8 area as well or would either or need a little bit of supplemental in the corners or wall areas?

i see what you mean though… thanks for the insider i was looking into those for supple in green houses… but cxb3070's are kicking ass in efficiency and e-bill cost right now that why i would take the led route first hand

I`d run a 2 x 1k hps`s as there cheaper by a lot

I`d get a few 400, 600 or 1000w mh`s too and slap them on half way into flower if you can manage the heat

If not I find a few leds round the dark patches are handy, leds are great but they cost a lot so makes it hard for bigger set ups

but that being said you can get the bud a lot closer to an led then a hps and there`s a very low risk of fire even if the light was to drop onto a dry plant where as a hps can start a fire real easy

but I`ve found an led that uses 500 to 700w can match a 600w hps in the right conditions and normally allow you a bit more height if you need it

I`ve had some 300w cob led chips with heatsinks and drivers I`ve been meaning to put together for ages, I bet by now I could have got 600w chips and drivers for the same price I paid

The bigger chips make building the units yourself a lot more realistic but with a setup using 1w to 5w chips you don`t suffer if you lose even half of a panel but with bigger chips when the go down you lose a lot of light

but that being said when a 1000w hps lamp blows you lose a lot of light and there like £30 to £60 a bulb that being said for £60 you`d be able to get or make upto a 300w led max

So hps is still cheaper and its what a lot of people are used to using

I keep hearing really good things about 400v dual ended hids but I`ve never used them myself

i have an 8' x 8' room and i run one 6/750 pro gavita on a light mover over a 6ft span and i also run x4 clusters of LED's. here in the uk there is a brand called bud master and i got them to dismantle one of their units and daisy chain 4 back together which i have placed above the gavita at 200mm intervals. best decision i made and good LED's are well know to give harder buds
