ideal temp for germinating seeds?

Have some seeds germinating in were paper towels, that are in a trey with a humidity dome. and have heat mat under the trey.
I have a tempature probe that is suspended from the dome ceiling inbetween the ceiling and the paper towels.
What tempature is ideal for germination? I want to set a timer to the mat that way I can dial in the temp and have the timer cut on and off to keep the temp.
I'm thinking keeping the temp (where the probe is) 77f-81f.
Any help would be awesome
Also I do not have a tempature monitor/probe for the heat mat. Just the one I have in the dome.

Jeesh, I just threw em in room temp water (21C) for 18 hours, then off to a papertower on a plate, and put in a dark spot till she pops (keeping towel moist the whole time). So far 100% success, but only on my 3rd plant.

I think 70F is 21C

My last seed did take 3 days to pop, and my temp drops around 18C in the house at night tho.

I put mine in a paper towel between 2 plates on top of the upright freezer in the basement. I had 100% germination rate for years (sometimes I would be ready to give up and they'd pop after up to a week) until recently I had 2 Mako Haze seeds from Kiwi Seeds, one failed to pop and the other one died after putting it into soil. I just thought it was weird that after many successful runs, I had 2 that failed from the same company. They were freebies anyways so I'm only out some time.

77° - 81° is fine... I do around 80ish...never fails

You wanna be old stoner about it...just add a teaspoon of water to the seed bag the seeds arrive in

and leave on your modem till they crack ...easy

that said I do have my STC 1000 temp controller does wonder to all the grow

I have done this my self but,damaged the seed once so ditched it,i have really good success rate with this method.

I put another 5 blueberry from marijunaseedsnl,also with the 3 blue's last night wanting the lavender/blue color that these beans have.

I am on a blue strain mission over the next few month,all ready been working on this one strain for about a year and half.

So in the end this project will be the clone only blue's liver's crossed with uk cheese,then the smelly berry male that kept true tight internode's and was the niceing , out of the 10 ugos,I have grown this strain all ready and had a lb per plant very stable breed indeed.

But i do want to cross the marijunaseedsnl blueberry with the blue's from ugos,from this i am hoping for the lavender/blue coulour that i know the strain sometime's goes during the final few weeks,and the coulour gets better during the curing,

So this time its going to be time to select two out of the 2 packs of 10,i may fall lucky with the blue's from ugos and get a nice male,from the 3 i have put to germinate,if not i keep going till i get what i want,Has for the the marijunaseedsnl,blueberry strain its a matter of flowering all the females and finding the one that coulour's up most towards the end.

I have the blue;s livers x uk cheese x smelly berry on the go at the minute,but only 4 week in,so i will post picture's once she is looking at her best dense bud's,Has soon has i have some nice shot's of her flower's i will post,my last grow was this strain and massive producer,so will be very interesting to see what she is like once the blue's x blueberry is added to the mix,Once i have seed's of this i will pass a few around so a few can try,but a filter will be defo needed the most pungent smelly strain i have ever grown people love the stuff,i even had some one trying to sell me some last grow,that a friends son got hold of not knowing it was my cross,

Paper towel looks a little over soaked to me. It shouldn't be too wet, just very damp. You'll also want to make sure it has access to oxygen or it could end up turning into mush. I would squeeze excess water out and not even put it in a ziplock bag.

Me personally I stopped using that method and just go straight into moist soil. Has never failed me and I find it quicker than other methods.

flash it was not sodden wet just damp,but i have done it with wet towel for the 1st 24 hour that worked too then just squeezed out tll its damp,been wet only helps penetrate the shell has long has you get rid of some of the water from the towel after 24 hour,but it was fine.

In 21 years dude there aint many ways i have not tried take my word for it,but i am very fussy when it come's to seed's and only work with seed's that are done right,the freebies from attitude halloweed this time the amnesia and the grizzly purple was a sham money making scam won't order from dna or blim blim again,its a matter of principle now with me and them,they should be doing there beans right and not putting under done seeds out there

Freebies though gave em away to a friend still germinated but not good at all light under cooked

The only reason i do not like that method is for the reason that you could say put one not has deep but it come up first,but it not be has good has one that comes through 4/5 days later just because of the depth you put them in the soil,i can tell through looking at the tap root,even in a young seed,if its gonna be a front runner,i like to see the root through scope,look for frays these are all ways prime eggs to keep,

Fair enough. I am not against paper towel method, I've used it successfully for years, but I'm trying out direct to soil method for now. Whichever works best for you. :)

Let's face it ,it's how nature doe's it the seed's are on the plant then fall from the plant and onto the ground,where my way of thinking is that they are then covered in leave's ext,and then are left there for a full season, come spring the seed's will start to germinate,and start to grow.so i don't think there is any special way of doing thing's it's what work's for you dude,and will work i'm not saying that there is no best way of doing them.What i'm saying is what ever you like best,i had a bag from a hospital that i had for 8 year's that i used to germinate seed's in but it got lost during a move,and i can say honestly after this happened i had trouble getting seed's to split,sound's stupid i know but i'm trying to get at it what you are confident in useing,a friend of mine uses a tray,and just put's damp paper towel on it then put's the seed's on top of the towel,after a few days he goes in and they have taken,in fact the last one i seen him do they was small seedling's growing,nothing on top of them just on damp towel,Shit i miss that bag still to this day pmsl .

best germ method


Germ in wet papertowel with chlorinated tap water at 80-82°, place inside open gallon bag to keep moisture, should have water beading on top... 24-36 hrs later taproot has emerged and is ready for transplant. Wet soil the night before and till, or moisten till it will compact and hold its shape, either way tilling before inserting seed is important. The seed does not necessarily have to be covered. You want very little dirt. humidity is important. I use solo cups..
Place sandwich bag over the cup and put in the dark still at 80-82°, again ideally you should have beads of water on the bag.
When the shell falls off its ready for side lighting, when first true sets of leaves form its ready for whatever..usually about 4 days total

This will have the highest rates and less stress

Ive expiremented in 2° increments,as stable as i can get in that area., and it is the biggest factor by far. Not only in speed of germ but success rates and mold growth- root rot , damping off.
Light plays a big role in hormonal responses that convert cells into roots. This is how plants can grow along the ground and effectively propogate/clone themselves. Or why tree roots that are exposed have bark. If your little babies are exposed to light your rates will be reduced. ive expiremented in a variety of conditions with the same and varied seed stock. 40 seeds in each group being tested. far better than cup of water or straight in dirt. respiration is still allowed to occur at highest rates as well
