I was growing bud when I got out of highschool 25yrs ago, i had a job! But my mommy made me get a real job after I graduated too. I got in the trades as a union drywall/lather(UBC) a year later. For those of you who don't know what the fuck that is or even give a fuck, we are the metal stud framers, hang shitrock, and lath(interior and exterior metal/wire systems), and much much more.
I haven't worked my trade in about 6 yrs. I only have 14 vested years, due to taking long vacations all the time to places like jail and hawaii.
Current job is pretty much full time bud grower, part time fisherman. I don't ever see me getting back into the trades because my back is fucking blown out from working the trades

I wasn't smart enough to get into a union situation, so I did roofing and painting for awhile during and just out of college. The best things I can say about those years are that I managed to avoid injuries and that it gave me a taste for self employment.

I'm still just a lab rat- but at least it's my lab.

was a plasterer. market forced us into learning drywall too but i hated it. only saw metal studs on commercial jobs but we did do one gigantic house that was all steel

Yeah, I got in as a lather because of my buddies father who was a plasterer. You had to know someone back then to get in.

lol....me too except it was a buddy who was subbing from his cousin. never will forget watching the drywall finishers sanding. thought they were fucking nuts. they wanted to know how to wet sand so i told them to lose those mechanical tools they had. gotta hand finish for that

One of these days, i'll build me a house. It will be all blue board/diamond finish. I got some buddies who are really good at it too.
Now, even though i generally hate playing in the mud like you guys and tapers do, i'm ok at both. Way better taper though.
But when you guys do the diamond/veneer, holy shit do you guys make love to them walls. I could never do that. But i want it in my house some day.

that's my plan too....hopefully pour the basement next year. you got the right finish chosen IMO. when done right it's almost art

i really liked plastering. got a kick out of creating something like that. just keep sprinkling the water on it and work it. when your arm goes numb you're just about done lol

Told my brother in law i'd fill in for him "hangin 10 footers" he tells me, your a tree man you'll be fine dude! 3/8's gypsum boards onto metal studs for 6 days straight made a fucken MAN outa my top skull and shoulders/forearms WHOA! TOTAL profound respect for rock hangers and anyone who does that for a living! By the way my brother in law looks like fucken popeye lmao!
