Bho...how do you know when tube is full?

Hello fellow growers so a friend and me are gonna making some wax and I already did my homework on it except I haven't been able to find this answer. How do you know when your tube is full of butane? I think my friend said his tube holds a pound, were also going to use butane tanks not cans. Thanks!

Throw out the tube and get a closed loop system and a vacuum oven and a distiller.


If you really did research you wouldn't be using a tube.

Always distill your butane before using

You want to purge for 2 -3 days to get it to 0 ppm's. Make sure to get a lab test before smoking. You do not want any lung disorders from inhaling all those chemicals.


If you can't afford all that equipment then dont make bho. Make rosin. It's better than bho anyway.

Totally not what I asked....but ok. Got all the stuff i need just not closed loop, im not gonna throw away a one pound tube and purchase a whole other set when this one works fine. I know that I have to purge it for a few days to get a low ppm thats safe to smoke and I know rosin is better but im not gonna press two massive garden worth of buds plus I dont smoke concentrates made with solvents ii always believed they were bad for health no matter the process. Thanks

Open blasting is stupid and dangerous. You will burn or blow yourself up eventually. It's not a matter of if but when. If you don't like smoking solvent extracts then why make bho. That's an oxymoron.

You can make rosin faster. It takes a minimum of 3 days to make bho. You have to vac purge for 2-3 days straight. To get down to 0 ppm's. You need a vac oven for that. Those pressure vacuum chambers don't work well enough to do the job. You also need to distill butane before using it to achieve 0 ppm's.

Dam I must be doing it way wrong. I've got a tube that holds about 5 ounces, takes about 3 cans of butane, usually get about 14 gram yield, then I vac purge for about 5 hours, flipping it every hour. It seems to be ok.. I thought. How to check the ppm? I thought if you purge too long it destroys the terps and leaves it with no smell?

When you purge you mostly use the vac. The oven comes on intermittently. That and distilling is the only way to remove all the contaminants. Bho is mostly done with dry trim / nug. When you dry trim / nug instead of having fresh frozen. You lose most of the wanted terps when drying. They're volatile terps that evaporate. Unless you slow dry your material at 50 F degrees. Like dry sifter's do . Then you lose more terps when the butane comes in contact with the material. It scrambles the terps and trichome heads. It doesn't leave the heads intact and you get the trichome stalks in the bho too. If you want more terpy go with rosin or fresh frozen ice wax.

To check ppm's take it to a lab to be tested. The equipment to do the accurate testing costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. Those cdx things are not very accurate

Also it's better to use high quality butane that only comes by the gallon. Those cans, each of those companies have different standards of refining. Still distill the butane before using.

Wow seriously? I've always been worried about that. I was in a bad car accident when I was a teenager. My lung collapsed several times and I had 5 different chest tubes put in me at separate times. I think technically I have one and maybe two thirds of a lung. They had to cut off a big chunk due to staff infection...

No, I'm fucking around...I hardly smoke weed at all these days so dabs would be way more then I need, one puff off a pipe and I'm stoned
