CXB3590 Build :)

Hi to everyone!, this is my first post :), I have readed a lot, from the good guys here about the DIY LED, so I encouraged to build one, I have ordered 10 CXB3590 Cobs, I'll be using 9 (1 spare), they will be driven at 30W each (25W with driver loss aprox.), the grow room size is 90 CM x 90 CM x 90 CM, they will be active cooled with the Akasa AK-CCE-7106HP (they are rated to about 75W disippation). I'll be replacing an HPS of 400W. I think efficiency will be about 60%?. Do you guys think that will be ok, for the size of the grow room?. How much do you think I could yield? I'm growing Indica dom strains (Papaya and ICE). I'll post here pictures of the build and the experience.

Thank you for reading :)

Sounds great man! Welcome to the club.

Is your grow space HEIGHT 90cm as well? Because That's not a lot of headroom for 3590's..

Hi! thank you! Yes it's 90cm, I think i will be fine, the cobs will be driven soft 800mA (30W). I have now installed an HPS of 400W, and the ladies gets burned only when they're above the glass of the reflector (about 10cm), I have 9, 7 liters pots.

Regards!

Shoots, you're golden!
Most growers with a couple runs under their belt experienced an easy 1 gram plus per watt when switching to COBs
I use 3070s @1.4A for a total for ~200W. If I get 1g/w I will most likely shit my pants with joy

will the 3590 fit on the small footprint of the akasa? looks like a big maybe...with thermal adhesive...

bought your parts yet? a long heatsink may be a better match for low current high efficiency 3590

Dimmer will be important in a short space. If not, vero 10 or cree 2540s may ease up the intensity/hotspots enough to not need a dimmer

Either way, can make anything work. glue it...screw it...grease it..cpu cooler it...tape it...:p

Hi! I havent bought the heatsink yet, here is a bit difficult/expensive the heatsinks, I was thinks on using thermal grease and not the pads included with the akasa, I could also seek for other alternatives, the COB is 35mmx35mm, and the holder about 60mm.

The data sheet on the akasa doesn't show the dimensions of anything. The round, raised area where the cob would go looks too small to me.
I would look for a cpu cooler like the arctic 64 plus or rosewill rcx-z1. Something with a big, FLAT footprint for the led.
Using a good grease would be a much better bet than the included pad. Maybe just buy one akasa initially to make sure you like the fit..

Thank you, here is the specs i have found:

Socket type Intel LGA775 , LGA115X
Cooler dimension 87.2 x 85.2 x 29.5 mm
Heatsink material Aluminum with copper insert
Weight 220 g
Installation Push pins
Fan dimension ∅74 x 15 mm
Fan speed 600 - 3000 RPM (PWM controlled)
Max airflow 33.50 CFM (56.7 m3/h)
Max air pressure 3.76 mmH2O
Noise level 28.71 dB(A)
Current rating 0.19 A
Voltage rating 12V DC
Bearing type HDB
Fan life expectancy 50,000 hours
Fan connector 4pin PWM
Product code AK-CCE-7106HP

And yes, I could seek for an alternative :), I have not buyed yet, so there's time :).

Regards!

I think people are using Arctic Alpine Pro with 3590s? At 25 watts it's only about 9 watts of heat each so any cooler should do a pretty good job if the chip can be fitted. You could even consider passive cooling them with the right heat sinks.

You must have done some research because your light levels will be intense and still in the sweet spot, looks very good.

Bonjour
Is it that hard to find a good hs in your area!?
Are you from US or EU?
Did you already buy the drivers?(what kind of?)
Gr/w you should expect is 1.3/1.5 maybe more depending on your grow skills and medium (soil or hydro)...350gr/420gr!

Hi, yes, I think almost "any" HS will be fine. I'll post an update when I have the chips. Thanks!

Hi, Im from South America, the drivers are "generic" this are the specs: Imput: 100V ~ 265V, 50 / 60Hz Output : 20-40V DC 900mA ± 5 % 95% efficiency

I'm growing in soil

Best regards!

Very interested in your results. Your in a ~3x3x3'? 9 sq ft, 9 chips, that should stomp.

I'm also in a short 2x2x3' and building a B3590 setup @ 23-49w * 4 (700-1400mA). Should have some power if I need/want/am able to manage heat. :)

Thanks! yes, one of the things is heat, now inside of the grow "room" its 4° more than outside room temp, in the veg side (under the flowering cabinet) its only 1-2° more.

your "generic" drivers are 95% efficient! It is good my hlg is 94%...!
but no casing....
To manage heat with cob!?? (Put the driver outside the tent in hot days and inside cold one...it is 21ºc outside the tent and 25/26ºC in so yes 4/5ºc difference but in summer it will be 30/35ºC outside...so without a/c???
Have a great day ★

Hi! the seller tell me that the efficiency is 95%, but you never know for real, I hope they're. I have one concern about the cobs, Its about the dust, CREE says not to touch the LES, so, how to clean them? Perhaps adding lens, to protect them from dust, and hands :).

98% sure I read someone here say that Cree suggests iso alcohol to use on the COBs. Evaporates quickly and easily available. I used a cotton swab with alcohol to clean mine, no problems.

I blow canned air at them every other week, seems to help.
