Growing is becoming a new "addiction"!

Yes, I love to smoke high quality marijuana -and have for over 40 years…..well the marijuana part, anyway! ;) The "quality" aspect has been hit/miss. I mean, if we wanted to smoke weed back in the old days, then we had to wait until "the shipment" came through town and then had to pretty much accept whatever it was. Sometimes it was good. Sometimes it was the worst you could ever even imagine!

Without the allowance of medical marijuana patients to grow their own plants, it was just too risky to try and really get into growing marijuana, before. And you had to be a special kind of person to grow it when it meant that getting caught could put you in prison for a long, long time! But, nowadays, since growing it within the state law is cool, and the technological advancements in lighting and other aspects of gardening tools that can be utilized to grow it more successfully, a lot more hobbyists are getting into the actual satisfaction of growing their own plants -not for the sake of becoming an illegal drug dealer (under the law) and making a lot of money like Tony Montana (lol!)….But, rather, for just the enjoyment of seeing the plants grow….Am I right? Come on! :)

I spend a lot of time with my new hobby. I'm trying to find that "elite" strain. I'm trying little tweaks here and there in my tent, with the nutrients or the lighting or the temperature or the air movement. I read a lot on RIU. I read a lot of articles related to growing. I have a lot of advice to pick and choose from now. There are so many "right" ways to grow it…waaaay more options than there used to be….RDWC, aeroponics, supersoil -just to name a few!

I continue to learn from experience and it now seems that the satisfaction of growing the plants is right up there with smoking/vaping the best! Now that I've been growing my own for awhile, the thought of going to the dispensaries or to the recreational stores is not as appealing. I mean, I still check it out to see what's out there…but now its not so much about just getting high.

Any others out there addicted to growing?

:)

Yeah ...it starts with weed, then try strawberries, then tomatoes, then fuck knows what,

more than once I've blown my cover offering the peeps in my village

luxury fruit, mangoes, mushrooms outta season, naturally I'm blazzed

then they ask

where they from ...?

...and I try to stutter

a buddy dropped them off....lol

cheers!!!

This year its British Gooseberries and Currants, I lust for the new nurse on the hill
so I'll invite her back to study the effects of THC on medical staff ....lol

I can say I am addicted...its actually relaxing and rewarding. I am an avid outdoor gardener, can't get enough fresh vegi's and earlier this year some random bagseed got tossed into a container and low and behold they freakin grew... they weren't even my seeds as I do not smoke, but miss smoking... will get back to it one day soon I am sure. So now I grow and give it to those I know smoke. You ask, how do I know I am addicted, well I look at every room in my house and plan a grow room layout for it, trying to optimize the space and figure out how each space will work as a garden and what the work flow would be if I used that space...

If people were truly into plants and gardening and did regular gardening they would find growing pot much easier. Never knew a farmer who needed help growing their own. Every farmer I have ever known who grew did good jobs too.

Wont disagree, but indoor growing is new to some of us and applying those techniques we use outdoors is an adjustment moving inside and learning from those that have done it before lessens the learning curve.. at least for this old man...

Yup a hobby with a reward!!! Unfortunately I have watched our country go backward as opposed to moving forward. And yes risking jail puts a bit of a twist to it, but still do it , so yes addicted to growing, but more so addicted to smoking good smoke and saving lots of cash. As for the other stuff, like veggies. Couldn't be bothered, sell an ounce of some great smoke and I can buy all the fresh veggies I need lol. Gives the girlfriend something to do though, gardening I mean.

It's a real adjustment. But you probably know to watch the plant more instead of directions on a bottle.
True and one of the reasons I ask folks like you questions when I am uncertain about something. Its one thing to guess wrong on a tomato plant or a pepper plant, where you have many..:bigjoint:

The one good thing about starting outdoors as I did at 14 was to learn that it's not some magical plant, that required magical nutrients when growing indoors. It basically grew itself outdoors and will practically do that indoors. Didn't get caught up in all the "you need these 25 bottles" hype. This forum has also been a help in weeding (lol) out the unnecessary stuff. When you can produce something that makes you happy, relieves pain, and if needed, make you a bit of money, it's, in the words of Martha, "a good thing" lol

I can say it IS addicting, but more than that it is relaxing... I am nearing the end of my first crop and am shocked by plants and the quantity! I must have set my expectations for myself pretty low- because I am very happy with the outcome! I havent done a ton of gardening, but I think anyone can become one if properly motivated- with the help of good folks on forums like there of course! :)

I love how much I have learned in such a short time! I had no idea for one thing that indoor leaves could be this ginormous! This leaf is obviously one of the oldest, but it is huge compared to any other leaves on my other plants! Anybody else ever have a stray monster leaf?image.jpg

I've been addicted for more than 30 years, but indoor growing is beyond addictive, so many things to play with like technology (another addiction of mine - but I get paid for that addiction), lighting, variety of strains, pheno hunting, breeding (many can be done outdoor but cloning is king for outdoor up north as you only get one cycle!), the list is endless. As soon as I get bored (easily) with one addiction I move on to a new one, sometimes circle back, are you seeing the pattern? lol

How about the addiction in buying seeds? That is another very BIG ONE !!!!!!!! f you want some very good Pure lances . ect look at Holy Smokes and Ace Seeds - musy be fast in ordering they get out of stock very quickly also Holy Smokes has about 5 new stains these breeders deal with mostly Sativa strains that are pure or very close pure lances

Fantastic hobby, I'm so glad I found out about it.. Growing for me is very therapeutic, even if plans most of the time go astray. The satisfaction I feel after a harvest is second to none and sort of a well being around my plants and sense of acomplishment. Plus there is a ton of information out there on lighting, air circulation, soil tc. just like OP stated, so there is just so much to learn. It's like a pool of knowledge and I just dipped my toes in hehe.

But honestly, best hobby out there. It's just a shame I don't know anyone who has the same interests. Except RIU of course. :D

Agree 100% I love getting up in the morning and checking on my plants. It's definitely meditative and mood uplifting.

Also agree on wishing for someone to talk about growing who is local. I have some regular gardener friends, and we chat about that, but it's fun to shoot the shit about weed specific growing issues too.

Damn you're right. Best thing is when you wake up, look at your girls and see new growth here and there. Strething during flowering is nice because you have something to do if you're Scrogging. I could honestly just meet up with someone to discuss different methods, nutes, mediums etc. Definitely not the same as chatting online, but I'm grateful there is a such a great site as RIU.
