CFL + LED?

Hey guys, my first grow has been going good so far, 2 blue hogs breath under "600watt 120* 5w LED Mars Hydro". however i remembered i had two 26w CFLs as part of a Areo Garden thingy, so i strapped them to the inside of my closet door lol. is this too much light? are they too close? will the imbalance or direction of light effect their growth? they're 3-4 weeks into veg. any input is appreciated! thank you!

as in i should just take them down, or it wont hurt but could help?
No the CFLs will help, just probably not that much. Something you could try is setting the lights on two different timers so that the CFLs are on steady for however many hours you are using, 18 or whatever, but the LEDs get an hour break in the middle of the photoperiod or after every 6 hours or so. That would be similar to how in nature sometimes it's clear and sometimes clouds go by. It may counter the midday depression effect. I've done it before, but with a 150 HPS in the middle of a 3'x1.5' cab and a 23 w CFL at each upper side. I had a hunch that weak light during the break would be preferable to full darkness because it wouldn't actually be changing the photoperiod, just the light level during part of it. The plants grew well enough but I didn't have a side by side comparison or anything so I can't say for sure if it's better than full dark or than no break at all. The CFLs will also supply a small amount of UV light, which may be beneficial.

Flourescent doesn't have alot of lumens per watt. So, by the time you do the "light squared exponential loss" as you add distance, you're getting more heat than light reaching the plants.

If you had some money to spend, buy Cree PAR38 spotlights at Home Depot (or Amazon). They're 18w, a nice spectrum for flowering. You can get clamp-on sockets, or rig up some custom mounts like I do. Those 27-degree spots would give you some reach from the corners of your tent. I use the 47-degree floods for closer positioning.

And, for mounting ideas:

It's human nature to try and reuse things you've already invested in. It's good to have that creativity. But, you have to recognize when it's not productive. This is probably one of those times, I'm afraid.
