I think he did.

I was thinking about how long the American dream has been dead and it has been dead for quite a while You know the dream where only one spouse needs to work to pay the mortgage etc. Undoubtedly some deep thinker will mention how it was probably Obama who killed it but it was dead long before he came into office.

I don't have any proof at all that Ronnie had anything to do with the death of our beloved dream but he was such a weaselly little fuck that he could have orchestrated the whole thing and we would never know.

Please share your thoughts on how Ronald Reagan killed the American dream.

Imo, Reagan helped kill the American dream with his outlandish spending (accruing debt) and through cutting mental health.

The debt created a need for new tax income. Inflate prices and more money is needed in the household. Increase taxes and even more money is needed.

The mental health issue, imo, simply helped erode the quality of life that was part of the dream.

I'm high, so just rambling on.

It's true, his ability to increase the debt load on the federal treasury was truly world class. We are still living his legacy of a hugely bloated military.

The allocation of so much of our wealth on military spending has depleted our economic might.
The incessant borrowing of money and support of unsound economic stimulus(buying junk) over actual national priority to maintain status.
Turning our political process into a lobbied corporate rat race.
Degerative democracy due to inability to speak freely due to political correctness.

Did Reagan do that?
I think we have to go back further.
Maybe back to the New Deal?

You may have to go all the way back to merry old England to get to the bottom of some of those issues.

Don't leave out the Savings and Loan bailout. We are still paying for that. Also forces aligned to get wall street permission to gamble with our money in ways outlawed since the 30s
Ronnie was a cheeky bastard. He did govern during the S&L disaster and that set the tone of responsibility by the federal government towards the financial industry that we are still living today.

His hands are very dirty.
