scouting a spot for next year

Hi everyone, i have a few questions which would be much appreciated if you guys could help out. This will be my first outdoor growing season coming up (still winter in BC but i am scouting spots for summer) other than backyard plant.I found a spot off an old run down train across a couple creeks down a game trail a little ways maybe 10-15 minutes of hard bush whacking, i wont be able to water the plants much ( once a week at most) so i have been told to plant in ground? The ground is very mossy and the soil underneath looks good, but i will still dig holes and use proper potting mix. The spot in particular that is off of the game trail could fit about 15-20 plants, should i just dig it all down a foot and fill it like a big planter? or dig holes and fill them each? Also i did not see any trash or signs of people being around, just bear prints.

thanks

Sounds like nice spot, if it gets sun. Better off digging deeper holes than wider.. I wouldn't use any organics if bears are around or they could dig up your plants.

South facing slope and the sun was shining through, when you say don't use organics do you mean like potting mix? I was going to dig like 1x2 holes and fill them with promix

If planted in the ground how often do I need to water, I have read of people watering as little as once every 2 weeks if planted in ground

Organic fertilizers are smelly and foxes and coons n skunks will dig for it..bears nose much better than those, I wouldn't chance it.

I've gone 2 weeks before without being able to get to a patch but yield will suffer some if its really dry n hot.. U can top dress wise water crystals or put some straw in bottom of holes..I like to make em 36" deep 14" diameter.

Ideally you want the crystals mixed into the soil ..everything gets sun now cause no leaves on trees..what about in may?

I just use a couple handfuls in my holes... But my patches get full sun and it gets real hot in summer 90° plus for stretches and little to no rain for 3 week stretches. What strain u thinking..IMO that's the hardest part to find.. Gotta find fast finishers that are bug-mold-mildew resistant.

I try new strains every year but this year all my sativa dominant strains turned to dogshit with the horrible weather in September n October..got well over 8" rain from mid September to middle of October .. Jabbas stash from bodhi did outstanding two years in a row.. Even in the that brutal weather this fall... So I be running her again for sure but I won't vouch for anything else this year... Og18 has done great for me in the past.. Gotta top them a few times and keep the nodes closer together.. But both of those finish first week of October and killer smoke..real mold-mildew resistance.

I'm banking on a strain called billy the kid that I've never grown but Its a fast finisher n indica dominant..

Yeah its a well known strain..I've never grown it... I'm running some fat purple, fat Marty , sunshine daydream, apollo11 , Afghani, Cheese candy now indoors.. Hoping the SSDD or Apollo 11 are fast or I gotta order more beans.. When u get hard frost up there mid October?
