Hey all, Looking for some decent Advice to empower my 4' x 4' Tent. Budget isn't that much important. Currently I run a 600W HPS but will dive into DIY LEDs with COB Chips (CXB3070 or similar).
Which setup is recommendable for my grow area? Saw Growmau5' Vids and saw a setup with 8 COBs.

Do you mean me? I dont know how much Plants? I can go with 2 Plants in 2 x 15 Liter Airpots,,, Hmmm

I try auto...last was this summer with dinafem original amnesia xxl...wtf!? It is not potent as the real one...!
Did you let 20h of light all along the grow?
Do a "normal" grow...24/0 first days (5) 18/6 for 3 weeks in 1 gl (4L) and 1 week in 3gl (12L)...bloom in 3gl for 7/8weeks...so 13 weeks half less electricity and more quality and quantity weeds!...
Or maybe and i am sorry if it is the case you prefer mild weed...some people dont like strong weed!

Hello,

can somebody point me out to an LED driver for one or both of the following configurations:

1 cxb3070 @ ~50%

2 cxb3070 @ ~50%

I'm correct to assume that for the first config I'd need an led driver that can run at least 36v at 1.4A, right?
And thus I'm correct to assume that for the second confdig I'd need an led driver that can run at least 72v at 1.4, is that still correct?

Now, I do have the problem that somehow can't seem to find a good LED driver for that. I'd like to get one or two quality ones, depending on the config. Can somebody point me out to a good choice?

Meanwell lpc-60-1400 for one and lpc-100-1400 for 2...not dimmable!
If you had 3 the hlg-120-1400b would have been perfect...I guess it work for two but the driver wouldn't be full loaded and will loose efficiency so electricity...buy a third and take this one...you will be able to dim them lower to stay at 100w and get more efficiency from the cobs!

I've got 12 CXB 3590's on the way ,it sounded like a nice number to start with
If you were doing a array with 12 what are the meanwells that will run them @ 50%
so I need pwr supplies with the best watts per cost for the meanwells is what I'm looking at & most efficient
i'd rather save power & buy more cobs is my mission
I'd shy away from a single meanwell because if I go the bar route i'd be a pia
multiple meanys are better

Noob here, last time I grew was back about 1979 LOL. Then honestly the best way to grow was I took a years worth of bag seed which filled a 1-gallon zip lock I went to a really out of the way area that had a seasonal stream, it was running all winter and up til about May then started to mostly dry up. I would just dump the whole bag into the stream and walk away and come back several months later with a backpack and hike downstream. Was the original guerilla grow, I gathered a fair amount of basically wild weed like that.
Anyway, I want just a small grow for 2-3 plants in a SCROG in a 2x4x6 Gorilla Tent. I would like to get 6oz every 4-5 months which seems to be doable even for a noob.
I am going to use 5 gal Smart Pots with a good soil maybe a mix of Roots/FFOF/worm castings, maybe make some worm casting tea for watering. Haven't really decided on that yet.

I would like to use the CBX3590 COB and burn them soft if possible just sounds like the better way to go and I really would prefer passive cooling.
Now problem is if I understand correctly that if I burn them at 700mA that is 23w each. Which is about 23W/ft2 (Is this enough light for a really good grow in a 2x4' tent?)
Seems to me that about all I can effectively burn "passive cooling" on a 5.88" X 44" heatsink is 4 COBs @ 700mA
So 8 COBs total with two heatsinks of 5.88X44" and one COB centered in each square foot should give a good spread/coverage.

The 5.88" wide heatsink seems to be about the best price point @ $1.74/inch
88" is $173 shipped.
8, CXB 3590s seem to be about $50 each from Kingbrite so $400 plus whatever the shipping is.
1, HLG-185H-C700A is about $65 shipped and I assume I can run 8 3590s @ 700mA on a single driver although that means connecting the two 44" bars or buy another driver for $65.
A roll of 1" wide Kapton tape is about $13
Thermal paste I think I got laying around
several feet of I would think 18ga solid wire.

So somewhere around $750 total, it appears.

This is really about $250 more than I really wanted to spend, but about any other lights for anything remotely decent is going to be at least this much and probably not half the quality of a DIY light. So it is what it is.

Is this going to work for me?
What would be better?
Any advice appreciated as I have only been researching this a few days and I am about cross-eyed from reading so many post so I am sure I am missing something.

On a side note, has anyone made an under-cabinet kitchen light using COBs?

Do think Regular Genetics are better? In Autoflower.net Forum they Love Growing Autos Indoor... I run a few Autos and they are very Potent but i cant say if the Normal ones better but i can do Scrog and take Clones from him... Yea you are Right but Autos are Cool also..

What about fem seeds?...I only use fem seeds since 5 years...no regular since (but it is about to change since I have a vegg box again)!
The only difference between fem and reg is the price and of course more choice in reg!
But you will save electricity and plants are stronger and buds harder on fem than on auto...pussy weed!
Ok it is your choice...but 20h

The difference between auto and fem is big imo...but in therms of grow you just need to change photoperiod...
Auto are cool to fill outdoor empty space and to wait for the real one...never try a potent auto strain...no problem for taste...but a thc problem for me...so when spring come I put a few (cause one way or another if you buy seeds you will have some as freebie...I don't buy those...never) it is faster than regular or fem so outdoor it is ok...not indoor!

we're off topic but
I grew out some auto's in my G/H in the summer huge plants resiny as fauxk
couple different strains I sorta got high I'd get almost there , but the rest of the crop was GSC & JTR
none could hold a candle next those Reg's even on pain issues

If you use cxb3590 3500ºk 36V CD @700mA (23/25w I guess it depends on the current 220 or 110V) you can put 8 like that on the hs you aim for...it is good for 4 @1400mA or 8 @700mA or 16 @350mA...etc
If you buy cxb from Jerry take the driver from him(52.50$) because you buy cob from him shipping cost will be better if you buy driver and holders at the same time (if you need lens or cheap reflector you should buy it with)
But for a 2x4...8sq/ft...8x30w=240w...
Personally with this size I would take 8 cxb3590 @1050mA or 10 @700mA no more and @700mA it will be very very efficient!

Sorry i mean Fem Seeds!!! Yea i go with Fem and Srog Technick maybe. I change my Equipment i go with 80x80cm and 2 CXB first and later i buy another 2 for each Spot! Friend told me 80x80 are better because the Area are better for later Upgrades... I know you told me know the Lights are not enough :D but for 2 Plants it is the same with 60x60 Tudogrow Support say me the same think.. thank you for your Support also i go with Fem Seeds maybe DNA Genetics.
