Looking for LED theory 101.

Howdy Folks. Newby here in the Great White North. Just finished the first grow using a Spectrum King 450 watt light and General Organic newts. Growing Jack Herer from seed in FFOF + amendments, we produced 22.5 oz dried bud plus 8 oz bud trimmins. Couldn't have done it without all the great info here and the grow weed easy site. Roll it up has become the go to spot for all things green and we are now ready to step it up a notch. I am familiar with the different light types/ spectrums, advantages and disadvantages. I am looking for more information about building my own LED lights. I have read numerous threads about "use this led with this driver and this heatsink". Are there any threads that explain what a driver does and how. Details in the different cob's and why one is better than the other. Formula for sizing all the components, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tons of info in the led section. Drivers supply enough voltage to make the device turn on, current is limited to keep it under control. To much current it will heat up to much.
