I'd like to see somebody trusted run a side by side comparison on here. I've seen them on YouTube but who in the hell knows if they're bullshitting.

I have no doubt they work well, I just want to see how well in comparison.
I'll likely be doing a watt for watt comparison with COBs at some point but no going back to hps :) They're overhyped by those trying to make a buck for sure, some site was claiming it to be equivalent to a 1000w - lol Certainly not that efficient but they're much more efficient watt for watt than hps. We converted my son's grow watt for watt and he's averaging 25% more bud, paid for the conversion in the first couple of rounds. Cheers.

I grow outdoors mostly, but I run a 400W hps/t5 configuration indoors. Gets me by until the weather breaks.

I'm like a squirrel. I grab all the buds I can get while the weathers nice and forage here and there when it's cold.

Those are the exact one's I'm running, they need about 12" overhead though. Bare bulb or a thin parabolic reflector might gain some height in there. advancetechlighting.com has a bare bulb kit for $200 but it's only 220/240v.
The price is what gets me. I can afford it sure, but I'll run this hps into the ground first haha.

Lol, I was a squirrel for years :) Toned it down to a few, could be legal up here in the next year or two though, then I'd grow my limit in monsters ;)

I don't grow a lot of plants outdoors, hell you don't need to. 8 ft of bud is 8 ft of bud lol.

My state sucks. They won't pass it and if they do it's just for edibles I hear. I guess meth is better business. Corrupt shitbricks.

Nah. It was me. Classic rookie mistake when I started. Didn't raise the light high enough when I was pulling pots. In a hurry and didn't zip the tent down all the way. Pot hit it and fucking KABOOM. Thank god for reflectors.

Didn't stick around long enough to find out. Had to peroxide and super glue cuts. On the bright side, the plants were ok... Thanks for asking haha.

Sounds like you'll have to try a few runs with your plant count and figure out the best config/method as you go. You pretty well have to do that with any new space. Once you've done a few runs you'll be able to tweak and dial it in to maximize your space. Your challenge is that 600 cool tube. If you were starting from scratch the suggestion by @greasemonkeymann of LED's, COBs specifically would be your best bet. They're a heavy initial investment but will pay back over time and allow you to use more of the height, so even faster pay-back. 400w of 3590 COBs would match that 600, you'd be looking at $800 - $900.
Shit man.... i'm thinking 400w of 3590s would outperform a 600.. like probably substantially.
that could be 10 cobs or so, depending
that's a BUNCH of light.. and I love my 600w hids (especially the MH) but from what I've seen, the 3590s are gnarly...
can't wait to build mine, and run it next to my 600w mh. (speaking of, I REALLY like that bulb)
